The race to raise enough money for the Rocky Hill Dog Park has hit the halfway mark thanks to the Crossin' 4 Canines cyclocross fundraiser. Saturday's event at Elm Ridge Park raised $2,000 according to preliminary estimates. That brings the total funds raised to around $20,000 said Livia Jacobs, who estimates it will take about $40,000 to fund the dog park.

Jacobs is the liaison between the town's Parks and Recreation Department and the dog park committee, chaired by Sandi Kelly. The goal of the committee is to establish a dog park on a two-acre parcel of land at the back of Elm Ridge Park.
The land is already owned by the town but money is needed to put in fencing - the most expensive item - benches, water fountains and trees for shade. Jacobs said the park would also include a hard scape entrance, such as pavement or concrete.
Depending on how much more money is raised for the dog park in the next year, Jacobs said there may be another cyclocross fundraisng race next summer.
