An 86,000 square foot theater complex could grace Cameron's streets if a new proposal becomes a reality.

Randall Read, executive director of the Northwestern Wisconsin Performing Arts Center, presented the idea to the Cameron Village Board at their September meeting. Building plans include three theaters with seating for 2,150 people, a banquet room and conference center. The building would be located on 50 acres at the former Chibar- dun headquarters and would be funded by fundraising, private donations and public grants. If all goes as planned, the land would be purchased in 2012. Read predicts construction could be completed sometime between 2015 and 2017. A Spooner native and longtime film and stage actor, Read returned to the area from the West Coast. He estimates the facility would be staffed by 12 full-time and 15 part-time employees.
