On Saturday, Oct. 17, fans of P. Buckley Moss, world renown artist, can attend a "Dinner with Pat." at the Kalona Methodist Church. The social hour will begin at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 each, with limited seating available and may be purchased at The Village Shoppe or by calling (319) 656-3853 for more information. Following dinner will be an auction from which all proceeds will benefit children's charities in the area.
According to Nancy Brenneman, president of Moss Country Friends, dinners of this sort with Moss are rare.
"It is an opportunity for people to come and have an evening with Pat in a more casual setting," said Brenneman, who stressed that this dinner is one of only a few Moss attends and that the opportunity to be in a smaller setting and see the woman behind the art is not to be missed.
After dinner, an auction will be held with items including four very special pieces painted by Moss herself. One item is an exquisite quilted wall hanging Moss painted. Pearl Yoder, a member of Moss Country Friends, then pieced and hand-quilted it. The three additional items are pieces of enamelware; a purse, pitcher and bucket, each handpainted by Moss.
Other items include a "Kalona Department Pedal Fire Truck" donated by Connie Sieren, a set of Porcelain pins, Hawkeye basket, a Riverside Casino & Resort gift bag with a weeknight in the hotel and two buffet dinners, baby gift basket, a coffee gift basket, a Christmas basket, a P. Buckley Moss coffee Mug with floral arrangement and other items as well.
Raffle tickets will be sold at a price of $1 each or six for $5. The first-prize item is "Remarque of Serenity," a framed P. Buckley Moss print  valued at $525 (one need not be present to win) - donated by P. Buckley Moss and the P. Buckley Moss Society. The framing was donated by The Village Shoppe. The second prize item is a P. Buckley Moss 1986 porcelain plate "Night Before Christmas," valued at $200 (donated by Jean Hertig). The third prize item is a 1994 P. Buckley Moss porcelain member pin "Country Wedding." Raffle tickets must be purchased by 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at The Village Shoppe or at the "Show with Pat."
All attendees will receive a complimentary black and white P. Buckley Moss print, "God's Grace," valued at $30.
Items purchased with proceeds from the auction will include a handicapped-accessible trike for a 4-year-old child from Washington, two IPODs for lessons at Mid-Prairie Middle School and several handicapped-accessible bikes for Iowa City elementary schools. As is stated on their website: http://www.cloudburst9.net/kalonaboy/MossCountryFriends.htm "Moss Country Friends is a chapter of The P. Buckley Moss Society, we are based in Kalona, IA.  As a chapter, we are dedicated to foster awareness and enjoyment of the art of P. Buckley Moss and to help learning disabled children, abused children and other young children at risk.  We also assist Pat in her local appearances.
Moss will not be signing prints at the dinner, although she will during the P. Buckley Moss show at the Kalona Chamber of Commerce on Oct. 16, 1 to 7 p.m. and Oct. 17., 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., (no puzzles or cookbooks please).
