Festival coordinator Nancy Roth related that the sculptures carved by the wood carver... will be auctioned off next to the entertainment tent at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26.
There will be horse drawn rides available for $1 for adults and 50 cents for children. Other transportation to the downtown area will also be available.
Kalona Rotary Club members are scheduled to handle the gates and assist with the parking.
Ed Yoder of the Mennonite Historical Society also reported that the Kalona Bakery will be making fresh bread in the outdoor oven on the grounds and Helen Yoder is again in charge of the apple butter making.
Harvey Yoder will not be able to demonstrate his dog treadmill because Harvey must have another knee operation. There will be a number of other demonstrations.
Roth noted that the Kalona Optimists and Kalona Methodist Church will not have food booths, but there will still be a number of other organizations serving a variety of food.
Executive Director Steve Reif announced that work on the glassed in enclosures in most of the buildings have been completed. Jim Miller has constructed furniture quality enclosures with glass to allow people to see inside of the General Store, School House, Loom House, etc. Push button speakers that tell the story of the buildings will be available soon.
Reif also said that the buildings on the grounds have been painted as well as the benches. The roof has been replaced on the Grandpa House. The improvements were made possible in part by a grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation. Board member Jim Yoder painted the grain shed and water tank.
Curator Marilyn Woodin stated that having Nancy Roth work with her a couple days a week on cataloging and organizing the quilts has been a big help. She also asked for to help watch the quilt museums during the Fall Festival. Lyndon and Sadie Hersberger make the chocolates
Woodin announced that Kalona Chocolates are now available in the gift shop and that there be another stand during the festival.
President Dennis Nygaard asked board members to help or get other volunteers to bring in picnic tables from Kalona City Park and Riverside Thursday evening and to return them Saturday evening. Additional help will be needed to clean up Saturday evening.
