ROCKY HILL - Robert "Safety Bob" Christino, of Wethersfield, has announced his retirement from Harrington Engineering, Inc. as its distinguished director of corporate safety at the age of 86.

With more than 25 years of experience in implementing corporate safety programs, the industry has affectionately come to know Robert Christino as "Safety Bob". He joined Harrington Engineering in 2005, where he immediately began developing and instituting an outstanding safety program for the Company that promoted a safe working environment for Harrington Engineering's entire staff. As a result of his expertise in job-site safety and safety training, Harrington Engineering was awarded with three Platinum STEP Safety Awards between 2007 and 2009 and a Gold STEP Safety Award in 2006 by Connecticut's Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC).
"I feel very fortunate to have worked for Harrington Engineering because the senior management team has always been very supportive of safety programs and training from the very beginning of my employment. I am very proud of the corporate safety program that I have helped institute at Harrington Engineering, and as a result, measures have been taken to proactively prevent injuries and fatalities" said Christino.
While employed at Harrington, Christino served as an OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer and regularly conducted OSHA safety training classes that were attended by all HEI field personnel. In addition to safety training, "Safety Bob" was also responsible for making routine inspection visits to job sites to ensure HEI employees practiced and observed HEI's safety codes and standards, as well as maintaining the Company's OSHA 300 record-keeping and posting the OSHA 300-A 3-month summary at each job site.
Prior to joining Harrington Engineering, Christino was the safety director at Select Energy from 2003-2005 and Semac Corporation from 1988-2003.
"Bob Christino has been a true professional from the moment he reported for work at Harrington Engineering, and has been the instrumental force in developing and implementing an award winning safety program that has made us one of the highest rated, safety conscious professional service firms in Connecticut and Rhode Island. He will be greatly missed," said Daniel Wilkie, President and CEO.
