The deadline for filing for all city positions up for election this year is September 17 at 5 p.m.
In Harlan, the mayor's position currently held by Gary Christiansen will be up for election. Keith Kaufman, representing ward 1; Orv Roecker, representing ward 3; and Aaron Anliker, representing an at-large position, Center Township; are also up for election this year.
The mayor's position is a two-year term and city council members' positions are four-year terms.
To file nomination papers, candidates must collect 25 signatures from eligible residents living within their city. Signatures for the city council member positions must come from the ward in which they live, and signatures for the position of mayor can come from anyone residing within the city.
