Steel structure goes up at Wellness Center
By: 09/02/2009
HARLAN -- Construction crews continue to work aggressively on completing the new 44,329 sq. ft. Petersen Family Wellness Center. Officials said last week at a Board of Trustees meeting they expect the concrete slab to be poured and steel superstructure to be completed within the next 60 days. They are on track for a spring 2010 opening.
The project has already received nearly $7 million in donations and grants to help fund the $10.1 million facility and fundraising continues to help finalize the construction. If interested in donating call 712-755-4417 or email dreambig@myrtuemedical.org.
The Center sits on a five-acre lot directly south of the Myrtue Medical Center, where the former Harlan Drive-In Theatre and HiWay Motel were located.
The facility includes: multipurpose court (racquetball, yoga, Nintendo Wii); Swanson Family fitness studio (aerobics, party rentals, etc.); McDowell work out area; Kid's Zone play area.
A regulation size gym (basketball, volleyball, tennis); three lane walking track (11.2 laps equals 1 mile), meeting room (12 x 22); men's and women's locker rooms, family locker room, cafe area and reception desk and office.
The Lewis Family Aquatic Complex features four competitive length swimming lanes, youth zero depth entrance, resistance channel, 10-person spa.
Also, rehab services for physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy and a rehab pool. (Photo by Alan Mores)
