A Lawrence County man is in stable but critical condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and a Jefferson Davis County man is in jail following a Wednesday night shooting on Rose Hill Road, authorities said.

Lawrence County Sheriff's Department Undersheriff Willie Wallace said Anthony Brown, believed to be in his mid-to late-30s, is alleged to have been shot in the head during an altercation with Albon Randolph Jr., 36, from the Progress community in Jefferson Davis County.

"Basically just a guy shot this guy. We think there might have been a girlfriend involved," Wallace said.

The incident occurred on Rose Hill Road in the Rose Hill community in Lawrence County between 9 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses said Brown was taken to Lawrence County Hospital by ambulance, and was flown to UMC from there.

Meanwhile Randolph turned himself in to officials after the shooting. He is charged with aggravated assault.

Wallace said the shooting is still under investigation.

"We're still working on it. It's a bad thing," Wallace said.
