The telecommunications company RCN Corporation has moved its residential and business services into a newly renovated space in Long Island City, transforming a former match factory into an eco-friendly office bathed in natural light.
The company, which provides Internet, video and voice services to individuals and small businesses, held a formal ribbon cuting for the new 15,700-square-foot space on Aug. 4.

“We’re excited to return to Queens and be part of the revitalization effort making Long Island City a business destination and community center,” said Anthony Ontiveros, RCN’s vice president and the company’s New York general manager. “This new office will allow us to better serve our customers and the community for years to come.”
Attendees at the ribbon cutting included Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and other community leaders.
RCN’s new office may receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification — a classification bestowed upon spaces that meet certain “green” qualifications.
