The band - featuring one of the area's best vocalists and a dentist on bass guitar - is a five-piece party/dance cover band that plays at clubs across New England.
Lick, started in 2004, is mostly a part-time thing for everyone involved.
"We play mostly for fun but also do our share of benefits, too," said Mark Mauro, the band's guitarist.
The band is comprised of Dina Papacostas of New Britain on vocals, Mark Mauro of Southingon on guitar and vocals, Dr. Neil Shapiro of Meriden on bass and vocals, Dean Cardinale of Plainville on guitar and vocals and Mark Tardif of Southington on drums.
Papacostas was named the Hartford Advocate's 2008 Best Female Vocalist Winner for the Advocate's Grand Band Slam contest. She has been singing with Lick since 2005, and along with singing on the weekends she is pursuing her master's degree in special education at Southern Connecticut State University.
Shapiro was also given honors by the Advocate as being the best bassist for Grand Band Slam in 2008. Shapiro has been performing in Connecticut for 14 years and when he received this award he was honored that the fans recognized him.
"Our band members Mark Mauro, Mark Tardif and Dean Cardinale are amazing musicians right along with Dina and me," said Shapiro.
Shapiro isn't always rocking the bass. During the day he is a dentist at Shapiro Family Dentistry in Wethersfield.
The band performs songs from more than 38 different bands, which include Journey, No Doubt, Buckcherry, Bowling for Soup, Weezer, The Killers, Michael Jackson, Nelly and even Eddie Money.
"We do the best from the 1980s all the way up to current radio favorites of today," said Mauro.
The group promises to put on a show for everyone to enjoy.
"A Lick show is a non-stop party of sheer energy," said Mauro.
