HARLAN -- Final bids of $397,154 for the Petersen Family Wellness Center and Lewis Family Aquatic Complex were approved by the Myrtue Medical Center Board of Trustees on Tuesday, July 28.
Chuck Assman, facilities director at MMC, presented the final bid package to the board. Assman said securing this last series of recommended low bids will allow the construction project to keep moving forward.
Completion of the estimated $9.6 million facility is expected in summer 2010.

Approved bids
      * Membrane roof - RL Craft, Denison, $22,892
      * Ceramic tile, resilient flooring and carpet - Alpha & Omega Flooring, Harlan - $161,850
      * Resilient sports flooring - Andersen Ladd, St. Paul, Minn., $114,392
      * Sports equipment - Sports Construction Midwest, $49,520
      * Temperature controls - Control Services, Omaha, $48,500
Two change orders were also approved for the wellness center: over excavation of building site pad was transferred from Laughlin Construction, Omaha to Taylor Excavation, Omaha, for the same amount of $94,405; and canopy and physical therapy area structural changes - One Ton Welding, Panama, $41,739.

Additional board action
      * A property easement for Farmers Mutual Cooperative Telephone Company (FMCTC) along Highway 44 at the Wellness Center property was granted.
The 10 foot wide, 380 foot long easement connects two vaults (underground telecommunication boxes) on the northwest/southwest corner of the property.
      * No action was taken after the board of trustees went into closed section under Iowa Code 21.5 (1) (c) to discuss strategy with counsel in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent where its disclosure would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the governmental body in that litigation.
The next MMC Board of Trustees regular meeting is slated for Tuesday, August 25 in the Auble Conference Center at Myrtue Medical Center.
