To chantings and the beat of drums, American Indian dancers from 40 nations gathered at the Queens County Farm Museum last weekend for the 31st annual mid-summer Thunderbird Pow-wow.
The three-day event at the Floral Park farm museum is the citys oldest and largest pow-wow. Colorful attire featuring beads, feathers and fur added to the drama as Native Americans performed traditional dances in intertribal competition.
Visitors were also able to purchase traditional American Indian food as well as jewelry and crafts.
All proceeds from the pow-wow went to the Thunderbird Indian Scholarship fund and the farm museum, Queens only working farm
