Girls from Lone Tree, Riverside, Washington Township, and Kalona softball teams worked together for two weeks raising money and practicing softball.
Manager Corey Kreutz and Coach Mike Bowlin said they had a great time working with the group.
"We couldn't have taken a better group of girls to Colorado with us, they were fun to be with and really easy to coach. It was a blast," said Manager Corey Kreutz. "While we were down there we had several people come up to us, even the league commissioner came up to us and told us that Team Iowa was the one team that stood out among all the rest of them. They were the most excited to be there and they played hard."
"It was a very highly energetic team and for only having two weeks to put them together and worrying how some players click with other players - we couldn't have asked for a better group," said Mike Bowlin. "From the point we started - the very first day - everybody bonded and we were a team within a matter of minutes."
The team lost their first game 5-4 to Missouri when a small miscue allowed two runs to score in the final inning.
They lost 9-6 to Kansas in their second game before winning their last game 12-2 over Colorado.
Their 1-2 record in pool play wasn't good enough to qualify them for the final tournament, and even though they'd lost to Iowa 12-2, Colorado went on to win the Regional tournament and will play at the 12U World Series later this summer.
The Coaches and players would like to thank the following sponsors for their support in raising funds to purchase uniforms and to help cover food and travel expenses.
