The Hochstetler drug store changed hands this week, Mrs. M. E. Hochstetler selling the stock to Mr. Holyoke of Riverside.
Buy medicinal oils, castor oil, linseed oil, hard oils, kerosene and gasoline at the Rogers drug store.
Clarence Niffenegger tied a nice driving horse to the lamp post near the Kalona House, Monday afternoon. The horse became frightened, broke off the post and the mixup that followed was lively and exciting. In the end the results were that the lamp and frame were a complete wreck, the buggy considerably damaged.
A. C. Sleichter and Charley McKenzie suffered the loss of a nice fat heifer Monday, overheated by driving.
Marsh Adams had a sale of household goods last Saturday and the family moved to Cedar Rapids where Marsh will work in a barber shop. He is a good hand with the razor and shears.
The Misses Alice and Mabel Palmer and Pearl White, who have been visiting at the W. H. Palmer home, went to Cedar Rapids, Tuesday to visit Mrs. E. L. Ackerman.
H. A. Dunlap has been doubly bereaved during the past week, by the death of his wife at Iowa City and of his brother Bernie Dunlap at Green River, Wyoming. His brother was bitten by a dog and blood poisoning ensued causing his death.
Joe and Frank Swartzendruber and Otha Grady went to Iowa City Monday evening, to hear the great Kryl band at the Chautauqua.
Six young men, Ben Oswalt, Sam Wertz, Menno Miller, Harvey Bender and a Mr. Brenneman and Stevanus, went to Dakota Monday to work a couple of months, harvesting and threshing.
Richmond
Mellie Strabala died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Strabala, Friday morning, after a few month's illness with rheumatism and dropsy.
Mrs. Bernard Friese of near Washington spent Monday with Mrs. Fred Radda.
Al. Selement is helping Fred Radda stack grain this week.
Frank and Wm. Pieper spent a few days with the home folks. Their father is very sick.
Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Shillig expect to leave the last of the week for Colorado. Miss Rosie Yeggy of Riverside will stay here with the children.
Josephine Haubenschild spent a few days this week at F. Blecha's.
Albert Lintz and son Leonard were at Hills Tuesday.

Paul Maske and family were Sunday visitors at Leonard Oswalt's.
C. C. Swartzendruber is treating his buildings to a coat of paint.
Mrs. O. H. Dunlap and Mrs. Tom Adams, of Kalona took dinner with Mrs. Agnes Fry and attended the Dunlap funeral.
Mrs. Elsie Dunlap, wife of Col. H. A. Dunlap passed away Sunday at 1:45 o'clock after a long illness. Peritonitis was the cause of her death.
Mrs. Dunlap is survived by her husband and by a little girl, seven years of age. She was 31 years of age, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Oldaker of Frank Pierce. Besides her immediate family, her parents and five sisters are left to mourn her death.
Earl Fry, the Wellman photographer, with his wife, visited their folks in the Frytown neighborhood.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hughes are rejoicing over the arrival of a daughter of their house.
John Kinsinger is contemplating a trip to Seattle soon.
D. J. Boller and wife, Chris Wenger and sister and a nephew of Mr. Wenger's made an auto trip from their home in Wayland, last Friday to visit Mrs. Joseph Gingerich, a relative of there, living in Sharon township.

Mr. and Mrs. James Vesely drove to Iowa City Saturday and visited over Sunday with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Machover.
L. L. Kos and wife were Sunday visitors at the Joseph Kos home in Richmond.
Milton Waldrab of Richmond is helping John Malichky with the cement foundation for his new house.

Several wood choppers of this vicinity attended the woodmen picnic at Lone Tree.
Wellman
Some real estate changed hands around Wellman last week. C. M. Booth bought F. L. Rugg's 169 acre farm for $125 per acre. Then Mr. Rugg bought 83 acres of David Bitting for $122.50 per acre. C. J. McArtor bought Chas. Zilmer's 80 acre farm for $105 per acre, and Howard Cooper sold 40 acres to Charley Schulty for $100 per acre.

Wednesday morning Burdett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Omer Gingerich, underwent the operation for the removal of adenoids. Joe Chody, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Chody, was operated on for the removal of tonsils and adenoids the same morning, and Miss Velma Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abner Miller, underwent the removal of her tonsils. All patients are reported to be doing nicely.
Little Ileen Kennard underwent an operation for the removal of her tonsils Tuesday morning. She stayed with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. George Scriven, in Kalona until Wednesday when she was taken to her home.
Miss Naoma Bender underwent a surgical operation last Thursday morning at her home.
The A. D. Borntrager and Dan E. Borntrager families moved from Iowa City the first of last week to the Adams property south of the tracks which has been occupied by Glen Hochstetler and family. The Borntragers purchased the property and will make it their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Shetler moved Tuesday to one of M. N. Adams' properties in the north part of town. They have been living in the John Fisher property.
In honor of Vic Ritz's birthday which was July 30th, a birthday dinner was served at the E. A. Ritz home Sunday. Those present to enjoy the dinner besides Victor were Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Ritz, Miss Adelaide Niffenegger, Mrs. Dale Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Bourgeois.
A real estate deal involving the sale of forty acres of land just northeast of town which was recently bought by F. E. Skola, to J. M. Gingerich of Middlebury, Ohio, took place within the past few days.
Dr. S. C. Ware is driving a new Ford V-8 Tudor, the Kalona Motor Co. make the sale.
Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Enfield and daughter of Fort Riley, Kansas are visiting at the parental William Enfield home. Lyle is on furlough from the U.S. Army service.
Work is progressing slowly on the J. F. O'Loughlin house in the east part of town. Jim says they will get moved into the new house in a few weeks.
The Misses Elsie, Verda and Grace Shetler and Milford Shetler, entertained about forty young people Thursday evening.
There will be special music at the band concert here next Saturday night at 8:30 o'clock.
Two numbers will be furnished at that time by a Girls trio composed of Pauline Peterseim, Helen Snodgrass and Louis Stillwell.
The barn, hog house and milk house on the Urie Slaubaugh farm nine miles east of Parnell were destroyed by fire last Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Adams, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Adams in company with Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Adams and Mrs. James McCracken of Lone Tree were Davenport callers Monday.
The Messers. Melack and Tony Marek accompanied by Gid Bender have gone to Oklahoma to visit Mr. Vincent Marek who is ill.
James Beranek hauled clover last Wednesday.

Henry Miller had a sand hauling bee Thursday. He expects to put up a new barn.
The Messers Daniel Shetler and Paul Guengerich left Saturday night for Colorado Springs where they expect to spend a few days.

John Brenneman whose illness has been mentioned several times is suffering with blood poisoning. Miss Mary Hershberger is the nurse in charge.
Swartzendruber and Yoder finished their run of threshing at M. F. Palmer's last Tuesday.
Kathryn Kauffman was a Saturday visitor with her friends, Elsie and Anna Mae Miller.
Lester Miller is spending several days this week at Chicago attending the World's Fair.

Elsie, Verda and Grace Shetler entertained a number of young folks last Thursday evening. They enjoyed a wiener roast down by the river.
Verlene Knepp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Knepp celebrated her tenth birthday, Saturday July 28th.
The guests who attended her birthday party were Ella Mae and Irene Byler, Betty Yoder, Edna Swartzendruber, Emma Jean Kempf, Dorothy and Melva Yoder, Gladys Slabaugh, Nettie Miller, Mrs. Edwin Knepp and Donald.
Richmond
Burial services were held in the Richmond cemetery Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Kathryn Vacha, a former resident of this community, who died at her home in Washington Thursday. Pall bearers were George Eglin, F. E. Skola, Joe Kern, V. J. Spevacek, Joe Saforek and James Shalla.
Edward Shalla who recently underwent an operation is not regaining strength very fast.
Frank Patterson and mother were callers at the Frank Dudor home near Iowa City Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Dudor who recently underwent an operation is ill.
Mrs. L. J. Keifer returned from the Washington hospital Monday and is recovering nicely.

July 31st - Mrs. R. C. Gosell was brought home from the hospital in Iowa City last Saturday evening.
On Thursday of last week Mrs. Agnes Fry was afflicted with a paralytic stroke. She is some better at this writing however.
Leo Fry of Powers, Oregon and Gerald Fry of Portland, Oregon arrived here last Tuesday morning. It was been twenty-one years since Leo has been here.
Charley Shaffer of Kalona is putting in the wall for the basement at the church this week.

Friends of Miss Winona Durst are much pleased to know she is improving so nicely after her serious illness.

Evergreen
The Evergreen school will start August 20th with Monroe Hostetler as teacher. The Evergreen school board met July 25th to appropriate funds for the coming year.
J. P. Moore attended the funeral of John D. Adams at Kinross Monday.
Joe P. Gingerich, Frank Gingerich, Aaron Miller and Rollie Peterseim returned last Thursday from a fishing trip to Minnesota, but we don't hear much about the big catch of fish they got.
Sally Gingerich is helping her aunt, Katie Rhodes with the work. She started work there Tuesday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Duwa are the parents of a daughter born July 24 at the University Hospital. She has been named Dianna Marie and weighted 7 pounds, 13 ounces.
Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Baker of California are the parents of a son born July 31. He was named James LeRoy and weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Joas Miller, Kalona.
A daughter, Sharon LaVonna, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Miller of Colorado on August 3. They paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Sam T. Miller.
Gary Reif and his bride elect, Barbara Maloney of Ashton, Illinois were honored at a miscellaneous shower, Friday evening at the Kalona golf course.
Mrs. Belle Davis is employed as bookkeeper at the Kalona Creamery.
Alta Roth who is employed by the Kalona Oil Company, left by plane Wednesday to enjoy her vacation with relatives in Canada.
Mrs. Marvin Yotty is working at the Farmers Savings Bank while Delores Yoder is on vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris Nafziger and family will leave Friday for Albany, Oregon to visit relatives.
E. C. Kern underwent surgery in Iowa City.
Ronnie Thompson will leave August 11 for Chicago for a three day outing as a reward for gaining new customers to the daily paper which he carries.
Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Beckman and family have gone to Lake Okoboji where they will enjoy their summer vacation.
Mrs. Eugene Way was honored at a surprise birthday supper Tuesday evening in observance of her birthday which is August 6.
Supt. Everett Van de Voort of the Mid-Prairie Schools attended a conference on problems of planning and construction of school buildings.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Miller and family, Mrs. Emily Miller, Mrs. Dennis M. Miller, Eddie, Judy and Dennis, Milford Shettler and Cecil Shettler were in Coldwater, Michigan during the weekend, where on Saturday they attended the wedding of Douglas Miller and Judy Parrish.
Ladies of the Kalona Golf club were hostess Wednesday to the Wellman ladies at the Kalona course. The group enjoyed an 8:30 o'clock breakfast, followed by golf games.
Prizes for the day were won by Mrs. Ann Schlabaugh, Mrs. Janet Palmer, Mrs. Veonna Young and Mrs. Katherine Miller of Wellman, and Mrs. Ferd Skola and Mrs. Scott Hall from Kalona.
Pack 234 Cub Scouts had an over night camp out at Lake Darling Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Keifer spent the weekend at the Al Iverson home in Des Moines to help their grandson, Hal Iverson celebrate his sixth birthday.
Mrs. Roy Kallaus and Jane and Julie Spicher attended the wedding and reception of Laura Heims and Dr. Carlos Perez Mesa of Cuba at Monticello, Iowa.
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Sakulin and family and Mr. and Mrs. Leland Shaver of Cedar Rapids attended the wedding and dinner of the formers niece, Carolyn Kline to Walter Hardy in Hills.
Guests at the Harley Coblentz home were Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Miller and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Mose Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bontrager and family, Enos Bender, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Coblentz. Refreshments were served during the evening. The occasion was Mrs. Coblentz's birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ardell Pieper were dinner guests of their daughter and son-on-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Liebe at Amana on Sunday. The occasion was their 25th wedding anniversary. In the evening they were guests at the Wm. Bruty home near Washington when a group of relatives came for a chivari and gathering. Mr. and Mrs. Bruty also celebrated their 25th anniversary on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Shaw dedicated their infant son, Jeffery to the Lord Sunday morning. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Don Walker of Iowa City.
Marion Stransky and Max spent last week in Nebraska where they bought feeder steers to feed. They arrived back home this Tuesday morning.
Mr. Miller and son, Billy of Wellman are remodeling and refinishing the house where Albert Stransky's used to live. Wayne built kitchen cupboards and put down new linoleum on some of the floors and Juanita has been painting and helping in general. It will look like a new house inside when finished. Their new house being build now has the roof on.

John and Mary Pacha of Washington are parents of a daughter born July 31. She has been named Katherine Ann. Grandparents are Joseph and Barbara Boudreau and Charles and Margaret Pacha, all of Kalona.
Mr. and Mrs. Brian Herschberger are parents of a son born August 1.
Ellis and Rita Miller are parents of a 7lb. 6 oz. daughter, Rachel Anne, born August 4. She was welcomed home by her brother, Clinton David. Grandparents are Lester and Katie Ann Miller of Kalona and Yost and Liz Miller of Millersburg, Ohio.
Glen and Rhoda Showalter of Shedd, Oregon, formerly of Wellman, are parents of a son, Dennis Allen, born August 4. He was welcomed home by six brothers and sisters.
Greg and Judy Nagel of Webster, New York, are parents of a 7 lb. 14 oz son, Gregg Richard, born August 5. He was welcomed home by sisters, Michelle and Lori and a brother, Charlie. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Woldemar Zinn of Kalona and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nagel of Webster, New York.
Newcomers Welcomed
Kim and Vanessa Jordahl reside with their daughter, Amanda, at 304 F Ave. and moved here from Willmar, Minnesota. He is an ag loan officer with the United Central Bank.
John H. and Lillian Miller are newlyweds residing at 507 4th St. He is a self-employed painter and carpenter.
Mike and Chris Lanfeld of 107 South 6th St. came from Deep River. He is employed by an Iowa City roofing company and Mrs. Lanfeld is a clerk-typist at the University of Iowa.
Joseph and Diane Nowell moved to the Mayflower Mobile Home Park from Oxford and are the parents of three children. They are both employed as custodians by the University of Iowa.
Harvey and Irma Hofer moved from Iowa City and reside in one of the new apartments in Pleasantview Circle. He was a school administrator and his wife a homemaker.
Joe and Esther Hemphill moved to the Pleasantview complex from 231 Lexington St. in Iowa City. He has been an electrician and was last employed by the Veterans Hospital.
Mary and Edna Gingerich moved into the four-apartment complex at Pleasantview Circle from Frytown.
Flint Ridge

I remember one time when I was a lad attending Brush No. 8 when the Brush baseball team went to Snake Hollow to play ball on their last day of school and there was a music ensemble there from Maple Grove with guitars, violins and very good vocal chords by the name of Boones and Nayadleys, and those young folks sure did put on quite a musical which has been around fifty years ago.
Woody Swartzendruber of the C.R. Postal Service was home for the weekend and said he was at the breakfast table of his Pa and Ma when we were ready to leave for church Sunday morning and spied us across the alley so he came over and we gave him a ride around the block after which he returned to breakfast with his family and grandpa and Grandma Swartzendruber.
We enjoyed a fine visit with Omar and Pearl Ropp one morning a week or two ago across a cup of coffee and they said all the Hochstetlers were home for a family reunion and I guess they had quite a fun time.
We attended the annual pork and corn roast up near Franklin last Saturday night which was hosted by the Delmar Reugseggers which was quite a treat.
We say Thank You! to the Reugseggers as we saw a lot of friends we hadn't seen in a long spell from Green Valley, Holbrook, Franklin, White Hall, Birch Creek, Flint Ridge and far away places.
Glenn Coblentz of English Valley stopped in at the Flint Ridge park and nailed shoes on Prince and Babe and sure done a nice smooth job.
On Sunday morning we hitched Prince and Babe in the high axle buggy and drove out to the East Union Mennonite Church who were celebrating their 100th anniversary.
