Two part-time staff additions to County Communications were approved by the Washington County Board of Supervisors at the Tuesday, July 28 meeting. Michelle Wade and Michael Powers will work at the dispatch and call center in the old Safety Center.
The board approved the second reading of the County Code of Ordinances 2009 and voted to move to the third reading scheduled for the August 4 meeting.
The County Auditor's Quarterly report was accepted by the board. A new income source was noted on the report with $170 received since April 2009 when a fireworks application fee was approved.
The board approved a number of personnel change requests from the Sheriff's Department. Two jailers moved from casual part-time to regular part-time with over 24 hours per week on their work schedule. The work classifications for several deputies changed to reflect the responsibility changes after the first year of operation of the new jail. Mike Bender was added as a Reserve Deputy.
The board approved the application for renewal of the State liquor license for Ainsworth Four Corners, LLC. The required action by the board moves the application forward to the State for completion.
A letter of support for the Wellman City REAP grant application was approved by the board. A trail system from the Elementary School to the North City Park is planned with funding from the grant.
The board approved a resolution for the suspension of property taxes for an individual. County Treasurer Jeff Garrett stated the individual met the State requirement of receiving disability financial assistance.
The consideration of a petition for a discretionary suspension of property taxes was deferred until a later time by the Board. The applicant is currently receiving disability assistance and a medical review is pending to determine continuation of the assistance. Garrett stated this was the first petition received by the county under this section of Iowa Code since he began as Treasurer. The taxes for the applicant are not delinquent and complete information can be obtained and action completed by the board before that occurs.
