Crazy Days has full schedule

Two full days of activities are planned Friday and Saturday for the annual Crazy Days celebration sponsored by the Greater Madison Area Chamber of Commerce.

The theme this year is "Pool of Treasures." During both days, retail stores will have merchandise on sale outside along Egan Avenue. Businesses throughout Madison will be open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Unless otherwise noted, events listed are taking place on Egan Avenue.

Events on Friday include free children's games all day; a 10 a.m. car cut-out demonstration by Search & Rescue; a 3:30 p.m. ping pong drop and candy toss; and a 4 p.m. performance by Miss Prairie Village and Miss Prairie Princess contestants.

Food vendors will be on site from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.; a Farmers Market will take place from 3-6 p.m.; and the Dakota State University Lady T's will hold their grill-out fund-raiser from 4-6 p.m.

Road races kick off Saturday morning with registration from 7-8 a.m.; the 10K Tour the City road race at 8 a.m.; the 5K Tour the City road race at 8:15 a.m.; the kids fun run at 9 a.m.; and the Egan Avenue Mile at 9:30 a.m.

Children's games will take place all day; the Madison Community Band will perform at noon; KJAM's Pool of Treasure's giveaway takes place at 12:30 p.m.; food vendors will be on site from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and the kids pedal tractor pull is at 1:30 p.m.

Mart in the Park will take place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Library Park. Hourly entertainment will be featured on stage.

At 11 a.m., the Strut Your Mutt Dog Walk will take place at the Downtown Armory.

The State Farm Scholarship Car Show will take place in the Montgomery's/Lewis Drug parking lot from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The car show will feature some new awards this year, including the "Nice Ride" kids award; the "Hottest Car" award issued by the fire department; the "Smartest Car" award issued by the college; and "The car most likely to be ticketed for speeding" award issued by the police department. Entries can register the day of the event.

The Miss Prairie Village Pageant takes place at the Prairie Village Opera House at 7 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to Crazy Days, Madison is hosting the amateur baseball District 4 Tournament at Flynn Field Friday night through Sunday night. The Madison Broncos will play Colman on Saturday at 2 p.m. Other teams in the tournament are Humboldt, Lennox, Salem, Canistota, Canova, Dell Rapids PBR, Flandreau, Montrose, Harrisburg and Dell Rapids Mudcats. The tournament continues next week.

One final event is Sunday. The Search & Rescue pancake feed is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Search & Rescue garage.
