The event takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1 at the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site in West Branch, I-80, exit 254, just east of Iowa City. ÊAdmission, parking, and shuttle service are free.
Hooverfest 2009 honors past and present members of the military. ÊThe Vietnam Moving Wall, a 50% replica of the Washington DC monument, is available for viewing. ÊAt noon on Saturday, an Honor Flag flown at New York's Ground Zero in honor of police, firefighters and military, will be raised and lowered at the wall and returned to the rotunda of the Hoover Presidential Library-Museum.
Members of VFW and American Legion posts from across Iowa are encouraged to attend for the day. Local posts with members in attendance will be recognized at evening ceremonies beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the area behind the library-museum. Ê

Hooverball National Championships begin at 9:00 a.m. ÊStarting at noon, Hooverfest spotlights the current Hoover Museum exhibit, "Iowa A - Z: ÊA Celebration of Everything Iowa," with over 90 exhibitors and vendors. ÊAmong them are the Dyersville Farm Toy Museum, Grant Wood Art Gallery, Fort Des Moines Museum, Rock Island Arsenal Museum, African American Museum of Iowa, the Des Moines Blank Park Zoo, and many more.
Performances take place throughout the afternoon, including Celebration Iowa Singers and Jazz Band at 3:30 p.m., with free birthday cake for guests (while supplies last). ÊThe Air Force Jazz Band, "The Noteables," performs in the evening tribute.
