Could JetBlue’s T5 be the next CBGB?

Many companies have been called upon to engage in this fragile economy’s version of the buddy system: Chrysler and Fiat, Washington Mutual and Chase — the list is lengthy. But the most delightful corporate mishmash could very well be the one taking place between a low-cost airline carrier and a cutting-edge rock and jazz production team.
JetBlue and Superfly Productions, which has staged a slew of successful festivals, including Bonnaroo, have partnered to create “Live from T5,” a concert series and online competition to find the nation’s best rock, jazz and R&B performers.

The contest runs until 12 a.m. on July 31, though the final entry deadline is 11:59 p.m. on July 22. Interested artists should upload an original work of 30 seconds to 15 minutes in length on their website, OurStage.com/go/jetblue, which also lists the contest rules and acceptable formats. All works must be in acoustic format.
JetBlue will select one grand prize winner and four first place winners to perform at Terminal 5 at Kennedy International Airport. The grand prize winner will also receive two roundtrip tickets on JetBlue.
Even if you’re not musically inclined, the airline has thought of a way for you to play A&R rep for a day. Music fans can go to the website and vote for their favorite future star.
