Students in eastern and southeastern Queens high schools worked hard all year, even beyond their duties in the classroom.
At the top, members of the Student Council at the Humanities and the Arts High School in Cambria Heights show some of the clothing they collected for the needy during the school year. They are Belanda St. Germain, left, Dinasia Weay and Clevelyn Murray. The clothing collection was coordinated by Lakiba Richmond.

Above are members of Arista, the National Honor Society, chapter at Martin Van Buren High School in Queens Village. They are shown during the organization’s installation ceremony, held in May in the school auditorium.
Seventy juniors and seniors at Van Buren made the cut — no easy task. To become a member of Arista, a student must maintain at least an 87 average, pass all classes and perform eight hours of community service each marking period.
The chapter’s president is Anthony Narine, the vice president is Steff Belizaire, the secretary is Neesah Rose and the treasurer is Alliah Mohammed. Anita Abraham is the advisor.
