FOURTH OF JULY

      160th Road from Highway 4 into Yale has been resurfaced just in time for the community's annual 4th of July celebration Saturday.
      2009 will mark the final year for the current community building which will be torn down after the holiday weekend. Volunteers have been raising money for a couple of years for a new community center and a building committee recently awarded a contract for $265,000 to Gilson Construction of Guthrie Center. Plans call for the new facility to be finished in November.
      Activities in Yale begin Friday, July 3 with a softball tournament, beer garden and dance. Featured bands are Bus 15 at 7 p.m. and Clutterbilly starting at 8:00.
      Entries for a coloring contest which is new (see ad in this issue) will be accepted from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 4 at the community building. A bicycle poker run runs from 7 to 10 a.m. as does an omelet breakfast by T.T.T.
      Check in for the 11 a.m. parade begins at 9 a.m.
      A car show on Main Street follows the parade. A horse show at the arena is at noon with and equestrian drill team performance slated for 1 p.m. Entertainment for kids will be on stage from noon to 1:00 and free inflatable kids games will be in the city park from noon until 4:00.
      An M.A.P.A. hot rod garden tractor pull at the school and a free throw contest at the round gym get underway at 1 o'clock. Running from 1 to 3 is the Raccoon River Reptiles show on the stage. The always popular bath tub races begin at 2:00. Entry deadline for the pie baking contest is 3 p.m. A horseshoe tournament and kid's pedal pull contest start at 4:00. An ice cream social begins at 4:00 and the pie auction is at 5:00.
      Clown face painting runs from noon to 6 p.m. as does laser trap shooting, east of the stage.
      Joust Evolution will perform after the horse show (approximately 6 p.m.). The Bill Riley Talent Show is on stage at 6 p.m. and will be followed by raffle drawings and musical entertainment.
      Food stands and concessions will be available.
      Fireworks at dusk conclude the day's events.
