This summer young thespians from the NCTC Performing Arts Theatre will have the chance to receive first-hand accounts and lessons from four Broadway actors.

"Current Broadway actors will talks to kids about what it's like," said Executive Director Darren Farrington. "It's a unique program for a summer theatre group."
The program, Summer Stock, is not a new one at the theatre, still home to its former moniker Newington Children's Theatre. However, the executive director said it will be the first time students entering grades four through eight, will receive the first-hand accounts as well as dance and singing lessons and performances directly from the actors.
While it will depend on availability, Farrington said NCTC hopes to tap talent from "Wicked," "The Little Mermaid" and "Mary Poppins" for the four-day sessions, part of the three-week program.
There are limited openings in the program, which will run for three weeks from Monday, July 27 through Friday, Aug. 14.
Farrington said that those students who are returning for the program from previous years are thrilled with the addition.
"Our kids are really excited," he said.
No prior theatre experience is required. The cost for the Summer Stock program is $695 per student. For more information or to register, call (860) 666-6282 or visit www.nctcarts.org.
While the other major program for young students at NTCT - Summer Stages - is full, Farrington is excited about the public performances of SEUSSICAL its participants will give.
The production, which is the culmination of NCTC's Summer Stages program, is directed by Jason Sirois, a native of Newington who currently lives and works in New York City.
Thirty-five kids age 8 to 14, are involved in the program.
The musical involves a mish-mash of Dr. Suess stories and encourages audiences to "think of thinks" where anything is possible.
Farrington said the kids are involved in every aspect of theatre. He added that this show is much more ambitious than many in the past.
"We're taking in a bit of a bigger challenge," he said. "A lot of our returning kids are really excited about this."
Cast members come from Newington and nine other towns including Berlin, Farmington, New Britain, Plainville, Southington, and Wethersfield.
The plot is described as follows:
"When Horton the Elephant goes out on a limb to save Whoville and protect the egg of his neighbor Mayzie La Bird, adventure begins in the Jungle of Nool. It's going to take the Cat in the Hat, the smallest of the Whos, and a flock of Seuss favorites to save their world!"
"If you've never seen SEUSSICAL come see what you're missing. If you've seen it before, you know that SEUSSICAL is for children and adults of all ages," Sirois said. "Come enjoy it again, and watch for dozens of Seuss references you may have missed the first time."
SEUSSICAL is presented at NCTC, located at 743 North Mountain Road in Newington. Performances are Friday, July 24 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, July 25 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, June 26 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $8 for children, students, and seniors. Special group rates and party packages are available. Call the company in advance at (860) 666-6282 to ensure that tickets are available. For more information on NCTC, visit www.nctcarts.org.
