While serving as Commander, Submarine Group 2, Grooms provided leadership and oversight to more than 6,000 military and civilian personnel, including five Atlantic Fleet submarine squadrons containing 30 fast-attack submarines, two Submarine Support Centers, the Regional Support Center, and the Navy Submarine Torpedo Facility.
"It requires strong leadership to inspire our submariners," said guest speaker Vice Adm. John Donnelly, commander submarine force, "Rear Adm. Grooms is certainly that type of leader and Rear Adm. Bushong is cut from that same mold."
Grooms will next serve as Vice Director, Joint Staff at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
"It would be difficult for me to claim credit for many accomplishments because the credit rightfully goes to the people who made my time here such a wonderful experience: my staff, the waterfront leadership, and of course, my family," said Grooms.
Bushong previously served as Deputy Director, Submarine Warfare Division and commanded both USS Pittsburgh (SSN 720) and USS Frank Cable (AS 40).
"It's an honor to be here," said Bushong. "I look forward to the challenge and welcome the opportunity."
