The Guthrie County Community Foundation (GCCF) has awarded $113,429 in 21 grants to Guthrie County community organizations. The amount is more than double the amounts available for granting as recently as three years ago. The funds come from Guthrie County's allotment of the state's gambling revenues legislated to go to non-gaming counties. In addition to the $113,429 granted to the 21 recipients, the GCCF has started building a permanent endowment for the long term benefit of Guthrie county residents with a balance in the permanent account in the amount of $65,803.46. Only earnings from the endowment fund may be spent on county projects. Additional donations from private citizens will help this endowment grow and would ultimately lead to even greater annual giving in future years. GCCF has recently mailed foundation information brochures to educate and encourage people to consider giving money or assets to the foundation endowment account. These gifts are generally tax deductible gifts. All 2009 grants were required to show a match equal to the grant request in cash on hand or in-kind services or labor.
