President of Cosma and Damiano Joseph DeCandia, left, joined Honoree Cavaliere Joseph Meccariello, Clementina Meccariello, Sal Pace, Michael Mannarino and John Calcagnile.
On Sunday, April 26, the International Society of SS Cosma and Damiano held their 17th annual gala dinner dance at Roma View Catering.
This year, the Society had the distinct pleasure of honoring their friend Cavaliere Joseph Meccariello, founder and chairman of MECC Contracting, Inc. with their “Successful Italian American Business Man of the Year” award.

A sellout crowd of more than 275 guests enjoyed a wonderful cocktail hour, four-course dinner, open bar and Venetian dessert hour and were entertained throughout the event by live DJ Satisfaction Guaranteed, the comedy act of Gemini and singer James Johnson.
Through the participation and hard work of their board, membership, families, friends and business colleagues, this year’s gala dinner dance proved to be an extremely successful fundraising event. Donations were presented to the following: St. Francis Hospital, $5,000; St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, $5,000; Our Lady of Grace Soccer Association, $5,000; New York Families for Autistic Children, $3,000; and West Hamilton Beach Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Dept., $1,000. The Society also continued its ongoing commitment to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in their efforts to fund a cure for juvenile diabetes. Treasurer of the New York Chapter, Joseph Mure, was presented with a $20,000 donation, along with $2,000 from Citibank, N.A. in Howard Beach in their JDRF sneaker sales campaign. An additional $10,000 donation from the DeCandia family on behalf of Roma View Catering was also presented to Mure.
The Society’s President, Joe DeCandia and the board members took the opportunity to thank all those who came out and supported the event. By working together, he said, they would be able to continue to make great strides in support of the Society’s goal of helping to make a difference in the lives of children who are affected by physical disadvantages, development disorders and life-threatening diseases.
He also reminded everyone that the Society will be sponsoring its first annual south Queens Juvenile Diabetes walk-a-thon to cure diabetes.
The family oriented event will be held on Saturday, May 30 in Howard Beach. All proceeds from the event will support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which is working to find a cure for diabetes. The Society once again provided a wonderful gala event for its members and guests and thanks this year’s honoree Cav. Meccariello and all its supporters for their generocity, loyalty and support for its beneficiaries.
