The employees of East River Electric Power Cooperative will host the annual Bicycle Safety Day on Saturday at St. Thomas School in Madison. Registration will begin at 9:15 a.m. and the program will start at 10 a.m.
Children ages 4-12 are invited to learn about the rules of the road and practice them on a bicycle safety course. Admission is free.
Activities include a bicycle safety video and a talk from Madison police officers who will give some safety tips. While the children are watching the program, East River employees will inspect bicycles to see if the brakes, tires and other components are in good working condition.
Door prizes, including bicycles and helmets, will be awarded through a drawing. Refreshments will be served. Following the indoor activities, children will be able to ride their bicycles through the Safety Course in the school parking lot.
Also, participants may register their bicycles with the Madison Police Department to assist with recovery in case of loss or theft. Police officers will offer free bicycle registration/licensing during the event. Parents are encouraged to bring their children and stay for the event.
