The Northeast Goose Lake Rebels earned the team championship with 139.33 team points and Commanche placed second with 107. A trio of high jumpers, including M-P's Kelsey Fuhr, tied for sixth place with a height of 4'6" and split the third place point three ways.
The Golden Hawks once again got good balance on the track and in the field events, with freshman distance runner Sofia Chmaruk taking first in the 3000m run, senior sprinter Brandee Bohr earning a first place finish in the 100m dash, freshman hurdler Kaitlin Kaalberg placed first in the 400m hurdles, and junior thrower Candice Henrichson took first place in the shot put.
Mid-Prairie girls' coach Mark Hostetler said he was pleased with the all-around effort his girls put in.
"There was good effort," said Coach Hostetler. "Sofia won in the last five seconds, it was a race right to the end and Candice was pretty favored - and when she doesn't have the competition she relaxes quite a bit -- but she came through with a good throw."
It was just the second time all year that Kaalberg ran the 400m low hurdles, and it was the first time this season that Bohr competed in more than one race for the team.
"It was the second time [Kaalberg] ran the 400 lows and she dropped about three seconds from the first time," said Hostetler. "Brandee [Bohr] has been hurt all year with shin splints but she was still willing to run the 100 and do well. She ran the 4x100 later, led it off, and that was the first time all year she ran two races."
The Mid-Prairie girls head to their conference meet on Tuesday, May 12 at Tipton and will run in their District meet on Friday, May 15, at Central Lee.
