Jones selected for 2009 Celebration Iowa Singers and Jazz Band
By: 04/30/2009
DECORAH, Iowa - C.J. Jones, son of Mike and Darline Jones of Lone Tree, Iowa, has been selected to sing tenor with the Celebration Iowa Singers and Jazz Band, a select high school touring ensemble that will perform more than 30 shows across the state of Iowa this summer.
Jones, a student at Lone Tree Community High School, was selected from a pool of Iowa high school music students who auditioned at four locations across the state in March.

Now in its 27th season, Celebration Iowa showcases the quality of Iowa high school music programs through its educational and service-oriented performance program each summer.
Together with a talented staff of teachers and professionals, students in Celebration Iowa present an action-packed two-hour production that includes song, dance and jazz band favorites for audiences of all ages to enjoy.
Celebration Iowa's 2009 show, created by co-artistic directors Tim J. Mitchell and Lisa Roberson, will open with a memorable "America Off to War" set featuring "Chattanooga Choo Choo," "Rosie the Riveter" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," followed by excerpts from the hit musical "Newsies."
The second set includes "Carrying the Banner," "King Of New York" and "Seize the Day."
The show will conclude with an entertaining "One Hit Wonders" set featuring "Gloria," "Turn the Beat Around" and "Macarena."
The Celebration Iowa Jazz Band, under the direction of Kevin N. Brown, will once again perform an eclectic mix and fun jazz literature from many styles and eras. The group performs classic swing charts from Count Basie and Duke Ellington, as well as more modern big band charts from the likes of Charles Mingus and Dizzy Gillespie.
The band performs original songs and arrangements from some of today's newest composers as well as original arrangements written just for this group.  Popular selections  include "Salt Peanuts," "Anything Goes," "Four" and "In the Mood".
Over the course of the summer, Celebration Iowa cast members have the opportunity to perform more than 30 shows across Iowa while learning from some of Iowa's finest music and dance teachers. Among the those shows is a stop in Lone Tree. Jones, along with the rest of the company, will be performing free of charge at the Lone Tree High School on July 13, at 7:00 p.m.
Celebration Iowa, a project of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, is also funded by R.J. McElroy Trust, The Fred Maytag Family Foundation, Alliant Energy Foundation, Inc., and the Celebration Iowa Alumni and Parent Fund.  Each cast member also secures local sponsorships to defray personal costs.
The ensemble rehearses on the Luther campus June 7-26 and tours statewide June 27- Aug. 8. More information can be found at www.celebrationiowa.luther.edu.
