Work continues at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Boone as workers and board members begin to prepare for this summer's Grand New Fair. The picture is of the start of the remodeling of the commercial exhibit building. Soon the entire building will be painted inside. Just part of the aggressive revitalization of the Boone Fair which will feature many new changes for the July 15 through 19 dates. Among the new additions will be the Comic and Collectibles Show scheduled for Saturday and Sunday of the Fair, put on by the Iowa Comic Book Club, which means there will be several dealers of such things as comic books, trading cards and model trains for sale. Such events are usually held at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, but this year, it will be at the Boone County Fair. If all goes well, this could be an annual event as there is a lot of interest in comic books, etc. Comic Book Stores all over Iowa will be helping to promote attendance to the Fair. This will be the first time such a Comic and Collectibles Show has been held at a Fair and will give those attending the show a lot more to see and do. With over 1,000 people in their fan base, attendance will be up for the Fair. Dancing with the Stars has created a renewed interest in ballroom and other styles of dance. Therefore, the Boone County Fair will introduce dance demonstrations that will include swing, jitterbug, ballroom and square dance. Audiences enjoying each event will have the opportunity to 'join in' if they like. The dance demonstrations will be held inside the Community Building where visitors can also enjoy the various 4-H and FFA exhibits. |
