High School principal Gerry Beeler informed the M-P School Board Monday night that the M-P High School ranked 7th in the state in AP(Advance Placement) program.
Beeler said this is the third start year that M-P has ranked in the top 10 in AP rankings and he anticipates this current year will result in a higher ranking.
Wellman elementary principal Evan Parrott reported that the kindergarten round-up had 40 to 42 incoming students at Kalona Elementary and 38 to 40 at Wellman Elementary. He also reported that there were similar numbers in the pre-school round-up. There are possibly 90-100 incoming pre-schoolers possible next fall.
Kalona Elementary also welcomed three new students this past week and the KES Fun Night raised $9,500. Those funds will help purchase computers and LCD projectors plus staff supplies.
Students will be involved in various community projects on Earth Day on April 29.
Middle School Principal Nancy Hurd reported 5th graders are visiting the Middle School this week to get acquainted with the school and teachers. She said she had 85 applicants for the open social studies teacher position.
Next meeting
Supt. Schneider said the next board meeting will be on May 11 at 7 p.m. at the Alternative Learning Center (in Wellman Community Building). Reports will include at risk program and the math program. The board will also act on a 28E agreement concerning sharing the business manager with Keota. Schneider said he hopes to have an assistant business manager in place by July 2 to work with Doug Slaubaugh who plans to retire at end of this year.
