Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Schnoebelen celebrated their tenth anniversary with a tin wedding last Sunday many presents were received all of tin.
Mrs. H. A. Mellinger and Mrs. F. H. Kisor attended the first reception given by the Daughters of Isabella, at Iowa City Tuesday night.
Mrs. Belle Lacey from Mansfield, Ohio came Tuesday morning for a visit with her brothers, O. T. and O. H. Dunlap and their families.
Wm. Palmer left Tuesday for a visit with his son Harry, in Des Moines. Harry has a good position with the Homestead Printing Company.
Charley Sommers was the victim of some low down thief, who helped himself to four nice hams that were hanging in the smoke house.

Uncle Charlie Chandler who has been making his home with C. C. Yoder's for some time, moved back to his own home Saturday.

Minnie Knepp is staying at Rob Jones' and Lida Alt at L. S. Weeber's.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hughes and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meer attended the funeral of Mrs. Anna B. Tanner at Iowa City on Monday.
The Boone school has closed on account of measles, the teacher and a great many of the scholars being victims.
Mr. and Mrs. Jake Kinsinger will give up the Wagner switch board on account of Mrs. Kinsinger having poor health. They will move to the R. M. Johnson house recently vacated by John Robinson's.
Willis Stutzman of Sharon Center spent the first of the week at the J. M. Hartsock home.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Zager are the proud parents of a baby girl, born April 18.

Mrs. S. C. Ware and new son came home Monday from the hospital in Iowa City. Mother and babe doing nicely.
James Kiefer has improved to the extent that he is able to come to Kalona once in a while.
Gordon Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Miller, was operated on for appendicitis at the home of his parents Sunday afternoon. Mabel Fisher is the nurse in charge.
Wm. J. Duwa is slowly improving from an eight weeks spell of sickness which had him confined to his bed.
Doris Levy is a victim of the mumps.
It was reported Wednesday evening that W. R. Adams, who took seriously and suddenly ill last Saturday morning was improving nicely.
Favorable reports have been received from Ivan Alt who underwent a mastoid operation at Mercy hospital in Iowa City.
Miss Eash who has been ill for the past week, resumed her duties at the Edmondson Store Monday morning.
Wm. Lintz has been quite sick with pneumonia. Miss Clara Yoder is the nurse caring for him.
Mrs. Joe Koloseik, who has been a patient at the Mercy hospital in Iowa City, was brought to her home south of Kalona Monday.
Lewis son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed G. Yoder fell from the roof of a brooder house at their country home lat Friday afternoon and broke his left arm.
Marjorie, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hochstedler, near Sharon met with a serious accident last Thursday. Marjorie could not resist the thought of taking a little ride on the plow standing on the hub of the rear wheel of the plow. She evidently slipped off and fell under the moving wheel breaking the thigh of her right leg.
Bob Welte, Ernest Kloepfer, Emil Hesselschwerdt, V. F. Moore and Fred E. Bourgeois were in Iowa City Sunday afternoon to visit with Millard Enfield, who is a patient in the Mercy hospital.
Jonas R. Yoder was born near Arthur, Illinois July 24th, 1892 and died at his home near Kalona, Iowa April 3rd, 1934, aged 41 years.

Mrs. Lewis Jones held a sale today on her farm of livestock and machinery. The sale was well attended and things sold well. Clayton Bear will farm the ground, and the family will live on the place.

Richard Scott plowed the corn ground with tractor for John Lang last week.

Mary Ford has been elected captain of the girls kittenball team. Friday afternoon the girls met at the schoolhouse for a good practice.
Our "Hon" Class President returned, but now Gordon is absent. It seems like we Seniors just can't get together - but anyhow, Gordon didn't get the mumps - lucky!
The Senior class boasts an honest to goodness pitcher. Do you want to know who the young man is? Well, it's Jimmy Moore.

Mr. and Mrs. Noah C. Miller are the parents of a daughter born April 14. She weighed 7 pounds 2 ounces.
Mr. and Mrs. James Shalla are the parents of a daughter born Thursday, April 16.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Duwa will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on April 19.
The marriage of Elaine Ann Duwa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence F. Duwa and Freddie Wilson Lee, Kalona took place April 11 in Richmond.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Brenneman and family entertained at a birthday dinner April 12 honoring Gary Brenneman.
Joseph Charles Marek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Marek of seven miles north of Washington, died in his sleep April 10, 1959.
The cause of death of the 2 ½ year old boy was quick pneumonia.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stumpf and family have moved from the Mellinger property near the district to the Emil Ropp property in the north part of Kalona. The Mellinger house will be moved from its present location in the near future to make way for the erection of the new Farmers Savings Bank.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Keiser and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Way were among those attending the Barber Shop Parade at the Coliseum in Cedar Rapids.
Dr. O. J. Gingerich, who came to Kalona in 1951, has accepted an appointment as instructor in the college of Dentistry.

Mr. and Mrs. Ardell Pieper and family were Sunday dinner guests at the Henry TeBockhorst home near Washington. In the evening the Pieper family were supper guests at the Ward Liebe home in Frytown. The occasion was the 1st birthday anniversary of their grandson Jeffery Liebe.
Mr. and Mrs. Leland Shaver and Randy of Cedar Rapids were Sunday dinner guests at the Glen Sakulin home. In the afternoon Mrs. Shaver and Mrs. Sakulin attended a pink and blue shower at the Gail Shaver home.

Five boys ran for Kalona at the Cornell Relays. Steve Reif, Marvin Eimen, Jim Yoder, and Tom TeBockhorst placed fourth in the Sprint Medley Relay. Marvin Eimen, Kirk Fry, Steve Reif and Tom TeBockhorst placed fourth in the two mile relay. No team points were kept.
Junior
You should take a look around the school these days. There seems to be a liking that new white lipstick that recently came out. Kate, Vicki, and Sharon are some of those daring enough to wear it. Over their ordinary lipstick.
Here is what some of our Juniors think of that new lipstick.
Shirlee - It's alright as long as it has a color base, but I don't particularly care for it plain.
Judy - If it doesn't have enough color with it, it makes you look sick.
Kay - I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to. I think it looks ok with a color base under it.
Virginia - I agree with the others. I like it if it has a good color base under it: it's different.
Vicki - I really like I because it's different. But I wouldn't wear it everyday.
Jim - I don't like it. It makes girls look sicker than usual.

Housed in a former sheep and cow barn, Joe's Appliance Barn is now one of Washington County's largest retail sale appliance businesses. Just a year short of its silver anniversary, the business (in its present form) was moved to the barn just off Highway 1 a mile south of Kalona in 1962. That was two years after Joseph Beachy had purchased the Home Appliance Store of Kalona that was located in the former Boone Hotel building.
Mrs. Ernestine Grady and Mrs. Hazel Coffey returned to their home Tuesday from the David Ashby home in Mt. Vernon where Mrs. Grady recuperated after hospitalization.
Mrs. Paul D. Miller entertained at a quilting Thursday. Mrs. Morris Swartzendruber, Mrs. Cecil Miller, Mrs. Ellis Swartzendruber and Mrs. Elmer Yoder.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Edelman attended the wedding of Sandra Lowry and Larry Zeman in Washington April 7 and the 80th birthday open house for Clifford Roberts at the Amana Holiday Inn Sunday.
Three local area students will be among seniors receiving degrees during the 86th commencement exercises at Goshen College, Indiana, April 15.
Audrey J. Miller, Kalona, daughter of Henry and Barbara Miller will receive a B.A. in English; Rhonda J. Yoder, daughter of Paul and Illa Yoder, Kalona a B.A. in social work and Sara L. Brenneman, Wellman, daughter of Lynn and Mary Brenneman, a B.A. in physical education.
Three Kalona students and one from Parnell have been awarded Freshman scholarships at Eastern Mennonite College, Harrisonburg, Virginia. The $575 awards are for the freshman year only.
Recipients are Larion J. Hostetler, son of Leslie and Emma Hostetler, Don L. Miller, Jr., son of Don and Isy Miller, and Sue Anne Roetlin, daughter of John and Joanne Roetlin, all of Kalona, and Lisa D. Gingerich, daughter of Warren and Esther Gingerich.
Maybe Mel Miller was planning ahead when he bagged a 25 ½ pound wild turkey recently. Or maybe he prefers turkey to ham for Easter. In any case, the bird should provide sufficient provender for several meals.

Mrs. Dillie Vodicka and Dorothy and Dale Rodgers of Cedar Valley returned to their homes Friday after a week's visit with the Jake Sexton family in Mission, Texas.
Robert and Dora Kallaus attended the Iowa Press Convention Thursday thru Saturday at the Marriott Hotel in Des Moines.

The Sharonettes met April 14. Presentations were given by Lori Leichty on "Salt," Jennifer Weeber on "Calories and Fitness," Valerie Rulau on "Skillet Balls," Danielle Moore on "A Pocket Full of Flavor," and Deena Pagels on "Shopping Tips." Hostesses were Kerry Winborn and Ann Aikin.
M-P High School
Tony Dunbar will make his stage debut at Mid-Prairie High School when he appears in the musical "Grease" May 18 and 19. Playing "Doody" the weakest member of the Burger Palace boys, he is the son of Dallas Dunbar and Janet Borsdorf.
Also in the cast are Jana Graber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn (Ruth) Graber who plays "Frenchy", a character she describes as "friendly, but rather dumb," and Kris Swantz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonas (Gretchyn) Swantz. Kris is laying "Yo-Yo,", so named for her proficiency with a Duncan Super Spin yo-yo.
IMS Musicians
Sara Hochstetler, violin, Diane Gingerich, bassoon, Heidi Gingerich, flute, Sue Munson, clarinet, Heidi Gingerich, piccolo, Diane Gingerich and Sara Hochstetler, bassoon and violin. All six IMS entries received a "I" or "Superior" rating.

The daylight hours are beginning to be a lot longer and more and more birds are moving in from the South.
We crossed paths with Don Sehr who used to play first base for the Sharon Center Baseball Team and he told me he kinds thought his name should git in this column some tie. Don sure isn't the stringbean he used to be when he played first base.
We also crossed paths with a couple former Wall Street and Greene Center guys a couple weeks ago and they sure seemed glad to see each other the way they were spreading it. They were Ora Hershberger of Frytown and Wm (Bill)Groff of the Wall Street area.
Kenneth and Dorothy Yoder of South DaytonVille, Frank and Mary Hochstetler of Sharon Hill Don and Ruth Yoder of the Valley motored down to the Coffee Cup at Olds, Iowa, Friday night for dinner and sure enjoyed quite a feast.
Chupp, Whetstone, Bontrager and Yoder went on quite an excursion last weekend.
Marion Yoder, Shaver Creek Trail Boss, celebrated his birthday last Saturday and so we say Happy Birthday! To Uncle Tex
