STS1(SS) Darrel Malone, STS1(SS) Eric Fein, STS2(SS) Jason Byers and FT2(SS) Lawrence Kimpan were class instructors. SR Jack Wilson of Moundsville, W.V., continuing in Apprentice Technical Training, ATT, was both Class Honorman with a 98.02 Grade Point Average and was meritoriously advanced because of his academic performance. SA Justin Netherton from Burleson, Texas, was recipient of the Submarine League's William Purdum Award for most improved student. Netherton continues in Basic Mechanical Skills, BMS. FA Corey Stevens of Sandpoint, Idaho, was chosen by his classmates to receive the Navy League Award for his academic efforts. Stevens joins Netherton in BMS. SN Jared Stauffer, continuing in Apprentice Team Training, ATT, was Class Honorman with a 98.43 Grade Point Average. FN Herman Croley was recipient of the Submarine League's William Purdum Award for most improved student. Croley continues in Basic Mechanical Skills, BMS. FN Kervin Dickson was selected by his classmates to receive the Navy League Award for his academic efforts. Dickson joins Croley in BMS. SA Bradley Johnson, with a 95.59 GPA, was meritoriously advanced because of his academic performance. Forty-one officers graduated from Submarine Officer Basic Course Class 09020 March 20. Captain Douglas Arnold, Commodore Regional Support Group Groton, was the guest speaker. In recognition of overall superior academic performance, Ensign Jamie Howe received the L. Y. Spear Award and a gold watch from retired Capt. William Miller, a trustee of the L. Y. Spear Foundation. Ensign David Lartonoix was recipient of the Admiral Andrew I. McKee Award. The McKee award is given to the graduate who displays excellence in the submarine systems and diving trainer portions of the course and, who demonstrates superior performance in the areas of submarine design and safety. Ensign Matthew Dunn was awarded the Naval Submarine League Fire Control Excellence Award for achieving the greatest understanding of Target Motion Analysis (TMA) as measured by demonstrated proficiency in plotting mechanics and fire control system operation.

Richard Lesiw, USS Florida (SSBN 728) (Blue), was recipient of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Award. Lt. Bryan Bystricky received the SOAC Outstanding Instructor Award.
