Tri-School Band Festival is Tuesday in Ramona

Oldham-Ramona School will host the Tri-School Band Festival on Tuesday. Bands performing will be from O-R, Colman-Egan and Rutland.

The evening will begin with a Whopper supper from 5-6:45 p.m. The combined band concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the Ramona Gym. There is no charge.

Guest conductor will be Dan Carlson from Sioux Falls Lincoln High School. He graduated from Pipestone High School in 1994 and received his bachelor of music education degree from South Dakota State University in 1999. He did his student-teaching in Luverne, Minn.

Carlson received his master's of music education degree from the American Band College of Southern Oregon University in 2004.

Carlson was a drum major for the Pride of the Dakotas marching band at SDSU from 1995-98. In 1992 and '97, he was a member of Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. He has been writing drills for high school and college marching bands around the country since 1996.

Carlson is in his 10th year of teaching band at Lincoln High School. He directs the concert and freshman bands as well as Jazz Band II.

He and his wife Julie have a daughter, Isabel.
