Lela Fern Stutzman, 82 of Wellman, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a lengthy illness.
Services were held Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman with Chaplain Carroll Yoder officiating. Burial was in Wellman Mennonite Cemetery.
Lela Fern Stutzman was born November 9, 1926 in Harrisonville, Missouri, the daughter of Samuel and Mabel (Hartzler) Hershberger. She came to Iowa when she was a teenager and graduated from Iowa Mennonite School. On June 30, 1949 she was united in marriage to Harold Stutzman at Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church in Garden City, Missouri. They made their home in rural Kinross. She worked at the Pleasantview Home and Parkview Manor for many years. She was a member of the Wellman Mennonite Church where she served on the Library Committee, taught Sunday School and Bible School and was active in WMSC and volunteered at the Crowded Closet.
She is survived by five sons: Jerry and wife Carol Stutzman of St. Paul, Minnesota, James Stutzman of Tuscola, Illinois, Stan and wife Phyllis Stutzman of Kinross, John and wife Carol Stutzman of Sigourney, Donavan Stutzman of Kinross; a daughter Mary Stutzman of Kinross; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a brother Herman Hershberger of Hesston, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold in June of 1994; grandson Justin Stutzman; three sisters, Alma Mast, Ruth Hershberger, Laura Hershberger; three brothers: Irvin Hershberger, Elba Hershberger and Ralph Hershberger.
A memorial fund has been established for Parkview Manor Memory Care Unit.
