Siemon Company announces layoffs
at Watertown facility
By: James Perucci 02/12/2009
On Monday, February 9, Siemon Company announced the layoff of 38 employees from its Watertown facilities. Siemon Company is currently engaged in the design and manufacture of high performance copper and optical fiber cabling systems for I.T. networks in over 30 countries.

It maintains shipping and manufacturing facilities as well as its headquarters in Watertown on Siemon Company Drive.

During a brief interview, a Siemon Company representative opted for sensitivity on the issue, as a meeting with employees was scheduled to occur shortly.

Information as to what departments the layoffs were concentrated, how many were residents of Watertown, the potential of further reductions, or the going concern of Siemon's operations in town were not elaborated upon.

Provided as part of a prepared statement, Siemon President Carl Siemon stated that, "The economic crisis that began to effect our business in the US in mid-September is now impacting us in all regions of the world. Our sales are largely dependent on enterprise customers expanding or renovating their I.T. networks. Our customers have been aggressively reducing their costs including postponing I.T. projects."

"We have implemented a number of cost reduction actions including temporary salary reductions across the company in order to minimize the number of job eliminations."
