Velma Spicher, 96, of Kalona, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a short illness.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2009 from 4-7 p.m. at Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Kalona United Methodist Church with Pastor Lynn Patrick officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Hill Cemetery, Kalona.
Velma Spicher was born October 4, 1912 in rural Johnson County, the daughter of Aaron Burr and Susie (Brenneman) Gingerich. She owned and operated Kalona Coffee Shop from 1949-1952. She was a sales representative for Stanley Home Products for over 54 years. She was a member of Kalona United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge #84 of Kalona, Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge, Rebekah Assembly of Iowa, Senior Citizen Washington County Task Force and Washington County Minibus Board for over 10 years. She married George Spicher in October of 1932.
She is survived by her children: Raymond and wife Diane Spicher of Kalona, Willard Dean and wife Elisabeth Spicher of North Charleston, South Carolina, Lee and wife Judi Spicher of The Villages, Florida, Ronald and wife Eileen Spicher of Kalona, Joyce Craig of Iowa City; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her former husband George Spicher; brother Willard Gingerich; sisters: Irma Gingerich, Katie Kinsinger, Vertie Yoder; an infant brother and sister.
A memorial fund has been established for Kalona United Methodist Church, Pleasantview Home, Kalona 1st Responders, and Iowa City Hospice.
