Custom perfume event delights visitors

PLEASANT VALLEY - Guests from Rhinebeck, Kingston, Millbrook, Manhattan and Pleasant Valley got a unique and fragrant experience at the historic home of Sue Phillips on Jan. 31, for a custom perfume event.
Phillips, who is the alchemist behind Scenterprises Limited, holds these events across the area for women and men who want to "reflect their own expression of who they are and to have their own creative input into their purchases," according to Phillips. Scenterprises distributes Bespoke Perfumery, a custom perfume company that helps customers blend fragrances to unique perfection.
Guests who attended were taken on an olfactory adventure, experiencing a myriad of scents and perfume blends, including florals, citrus, spices, musks, ambers, woods and more.
They selected three or four of their favorites, which then became their signature formula, held on file in Phillips' database for reference and re-ordering.
For fashion plates male and female, there is truly something special about wearing something no one else can possibly acquire. "There's an artisinal quality about wearing a perfume they have created," said Phillips. "One which is purely their own, rather than something off the counter."
Custom perfume is traditionally a very expensive and timely process. It can take months for a perfumer to fully cover the likes and dislikes of a client. "The Perfume Studio is fun, unique, and guests can leave with their own formula at the end of the seminar," said Phillips.
The Perfume Studio originated in the United Kingdom. A perfume workshop, Phillips says, is "a lot like a wine tasting." Guests get free aromatherapy, the satisfaction of creating a custom fragrance, and a chance to hobnob with other fashion-conscious locals.
Phillips is a seasoned fragrance expert who created and launched many successful and popular fragrances. As the vice president of Tiffany and Co, she was behind Tiffany perfume created for Tiffany's 150th anniversary. She has also had a leading role in developing fragrances for Burberry, Avon, Davidoff, Diane Von Furstenburg, and Oililiy, to name a few.
In addition to custom perfume events, she's also available for personal and couple's fragrance consultations. For more information, or to schedule a perfume workshop, call 917-449-1134, e-mail Scenterprises@aol.com, or visit www.scenterprises.com.
