RHINEBECK - Being sick or hurt during the holidays isn't fun, especially for those who have to be admitted into hospitals. But seeing those glum faces didn't seem right for 8-year-old Saugerties resident Jordan Corvin.

To help raise spirits and spread some holiday cheer, Corvin and members of his family spent the morning of Dec. 22 handing out more than 300 gifts to children and adults at Northern Dutchess Hospital.

For Corvin and his family, the event was nothing new. It was the third and largest gift drive the youngster has conducted.

For Corvin, giving the gifts was all about making others feel a sense of joy at a time they might be feeling down.

Corvin said he understands what these people are going through. The youngsters is living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a hereditary disorder affecting connective tissue in the body.

He said the disorder has cause his family to make many trips to the hospital, including once last year after he had a seizure at Cahill Elementary School.

Presents given this year included toys for children and books for adults, among other wrapped items in his bag of gifts.

Corvin said although this was his biggest year of giving, he hopes to grow the event by collecting more gifts and traveling to more hospitals to hand them out.
