Schedule for heating aid applications is expanded

KINGSTON - As part of the Ulster County Winter Watch initiative, the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) has established extended hours in November at select locations to accept new HEAP and food stamp applications.

The 2008-09 HEAP season begins Monday and ends on May 15.

Applications will be accepted:

* Nov. 5, 12, 19 and 26, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Trudy Resnick Building on Center Street in Ellenville.

* Nov. 6, 13 and 20: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saugerties Town Hall, 4 High St.

* Nov. 7 and 14, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., New Paltz Town Hall, 130 N. Chestnut St.

* Nov. 10 and 17, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 12 Church St., Highland.

* Nov. 18, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Plattekill Town Hall, U.S. Route 44/state Route 55, Modena.

* Nov. 18 and 25, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Shandaken Tow Hall, state Route 28.

* Nov. 21, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Shawangunk Town Hall, 2 Central Ave., Wallkill.

Documents that need to be provided when applying are a copy of a rent, lease or mortgage receipt; and a current fuel and/or utility bill or a landlord's statement indicating that heat is included in the cost of rent.

Also, to prove monthly income, applicants must bring pay stubs for previous four weeks; an unemployment insurance benefits book; a bank book, interest or dividend statements; copies of Social Security or pension checks or direct-deposit statements for that money; and business statements if self-employed.

Also, for each person in the household, bring one of the following: birth or marriage certificate; school or baptismal records; Social Security card or driver's license.
