TRENTON - The former Ewing High gym teacher accused of sending naked pictures of himself to a 17-year-old student whom he allegedly had sex with has been indicted on sexual assault charges, Mercer County Prosecutor Joe Bocchini announced yesterday.

Robert Godfrey, 24, of North Wales, Pa., allegedly engaged in a weeks-long intimate relationship with the female minor, prompting authorities to arrest him Feb. 27. On top of the allegations of distributing nude pics, prosecutors said Godfrey received naked photos of the 17-year-old girl.

A Mercer County grand jury indicted Godfrey Wednesday with charges of official misconduct, child abuse, distributing obscene materials to a minor and two counts of sexual assault, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.

Godfrey, who is no longer a Ewing Public Schools employee, is free on $25,000 bail. Attempts to reach him for comment yesterday were unsuccessful.

Prosecutors allege that Godfrey began his sexual romance with the 17-year-old student last December while he was employed at Ewing High and continued with the love-making up until he was busted two weeks after Valentine's Day.
