Free-agency pursuit comes with low budget

Don't be surprised if the Cavaliers kick the tires of many free agents.

But they really don't have the money to make a big splash. They have the mid-level exception (between $5.5 million to $5.6 million) and the bi-annual exception (approximately $1.9 million) at their disposal, even though they might not use either of them.

Four free agents that might make some sense for the Cavs are Clippers point guard Shaun Livingston, Celtics forward James Posey, Bulls point guard Chris Duhon and Pistons forward Jarvis Hayes.

Another player that would look good on the Cavs' roster is forward Josh Childress, who is a restricted free agent with the Hawks. It would probably take the full mid-level exception to sign him, however.

The Cavs have several free agents of their own to deal with, including guards Daniel Gibson and Delonte West, who are both restricted. Forward Devin Brown and center Dwayne Jones are unrestricted.

A league source said the Cavs have been working on some possible deals, including a sign-and-trade.

The salary cap will be announced July 8 and will be worth between $58.8 million and $60.5 million. The Cavs currently have about $82.7 million committed in salaries (about $24 million over the cap). Teams can start signing players on July 9.

There's a moratorium on signings from July 1-9.

In other news, Cavs center Zydrunas Ilgauskas had an MRI on his back last week. He's supposedly doing OK, but the MRI confirmed that more rest was needed.

trades
You can all say lets trade wally andy sashadwayne and devin but until we actually find a team who actually wants them its obviously not gonna happen. andys stock went down since last year and same with sasha b/c of the injuries. After wallys performance i dont really see anyone wanting him. I think in order to get redd were gonna need to give up gibson andy and probably another key piece.

guys lets get real, trading damon jones is a dumb move..i mean he's "damon jones", the du's the best jump-shooter in the world, and he also provides lot's of veteran leadership...he's a keeper in my book. Now Wally has been a nightmare since the trade, dwayne jones hasen't done very much, sash pavlovich, devin brown, and andy varajo need to go. Let's get some real ballers in here or lebrons gone by the time 2010 comes around, james posey would be a very good fit for the cavs, but mike redd a dude that we have been talkin about for yearss now neeeeds to get here in order for us to beable to compete with the best, Lebron jus needs that extra lift, and redd will have that for sure, but look here cavs fans, let's worry bout gettin boobie and delonte locked up before we start talkin all of this, cause those guys are a BIG chunck of our team.

We aren't getting an allstar free agent this year
Next year however we have some great expiring contracts.... Big Ben, Wally are the big ones. Just between those two we have over $25 million a year invested. That alone drops us below the cap, and believe me...with only one year to go until LeBron can skip town, Ferry will be looking to bring in a top allstar. We'll win our championship in a year, which gives us the best chance not only to repeat the following year but also all but locks in LeBron for another long extension. This year doesn't determine our team. It's next year. So expect Danny to resign Boobie and Delonte, but we're not going big until we have some cap space.

listen up here cavs fans. We need to trade wally, damon jones, dwayne jones, devin brown, and andreson varjou. In exchange we need to get baron david or shawn marion. Including some key bench players like james posey, childress, and Mickael Pietrus

Yea you should get one of those average guys that you have just requested. I believe we should get rid of damon, and dwayne jones. Including wallly and varajo, and maybe devin brown. Look at the celtics they were looking for 2 all stars and they went out and got them. Wev been saying we wanted to get redd for 78 years, and a lot of other players for eternity. And all we need is one more all star or great player We should get james posey, and one of gilbert, baron david or monte ellis. If you dont do this lebron is going to new york. Trust me Ferry find a way to get this we will b in good shape and if you dont do this you are done for and lebrons leavin and there is only going to be about 3 people in the arena every year.

Mike Brown
Why should the cavs acquire young ball players. Mike Brown does not have a clue on how to develop. His strategy is to acquire players with experience.

Until we find a real coach we will never reach the pinnacle. In addition poor Lebron.
He is playing for coach k and then has to come back to Brown.
