ELYRIA -- Ruth Louise Baird Lewis, 84, of Elyria, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Wesleyan Village in Elyria, following a long illness.

She was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Laredo, Texas, and lived in Elyria most of her life.

Mrs. Lewis was a licensed practical nurse at EMH Regional Medical Center, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Elyria, and could often be seen on the church grounds as she volunteered with the St. Jude Gardeners. She also sang in the choir.

Survivors include her daughters Jeannie Sokol Hill of Elyria, Laura Falascino of Washington, Pa., and Cecilia Emerson of Rushville, Ind.; sons Thomas Lewis of Mandeville, La., and Michael Lewis of Garland, Texas; and 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James Hilton Lewis; her parents, Clifford and Josephine Dell (nee Roberts) Baird; and brothers Steve Baird, Joe Baird and Frank Baird.

Funeral Mass will be Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Jude Catholic Church, 590 Poplar St. The Rev. Frank P. Kosem, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
