Make Way For Citi Field; Shea Rotunda Removed

Attending Shea Stadium in 2008 will be a little different than in years past.
The subway rotunda and walkway which serviced the No. 7 train and was routinely overcrowded following every Mets game, was recently demolished.

It was removed to make way for the continued construction of the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, the main entrance to Citi Field, scheduled to open in 2009, said Dave Howard, Mets executvie vice president of business operations.
The new entrance will be one of the most unique aspects of the new ball park and will be modeled after the entrance to Ebbets Field, the former home of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
According to Howard, the Mets and the MTA are building a new stairway nearby on Roosevelt Avenue, which will be ready for the beginning of the 2008 season in April.
“The new stairway is an interim step,” Howard said. “We’re working closely with the MTA to figure out the long-term solution.”
