HARLAN -- Harlan City Council representative Bill Reid will see a challenge for office in this November's municipal election, the only contested race for council or mayor in Harlan.
Reid is being challenged by Aaron Anliker for the council member at-large seat, which will fill a vacancy that expires December 31, 2009.
Reid has been on the city council for approximately one year, having been appointed by the council to fill the remaining term of Dave Pedersen, who resigned after moving from his at-large Center Township area.
Pedersen has filed nomination papers to serve as the council's at-large member for Lincoln Township, replacing long-time council member Rand Petersen, who has opted not to run for re-election.
Longtime mayor Gary H. Christiansen is again a candidate for office, running unopposed, as are council members David Miller, ward 2, and Rhonda A. Brown, ward 4.
