Kucinich drapes himself in shame, dishonor with Syria visit, 9/11 'no' vote
Normally, Rep. Dennis Kucinich is best ignored simply because it's impossible to take him seriously, and why waste one's time.
But his deluded anti-American behavior this past week has been so grotesque and offensive it demands attention. Congress on Monday passed a resolution honoring the victims and heroes of Sept. 11 and ''reaffirming the commitment to defending the people of the United States against any and all future challenges.'' The vote was 334 to 1. The sole ''nay'' was cast by Kucinich. In a statement issued from his alternate universe, Kucinich insisted that he really honors them all and really supports the troops, but found it impossible to support the resolution because it fails to condemn President Bush for lies, lies, lies (in the squinty eyes of Kucinich). Kucinich must have had sand in his eyes a few days earlier when he was visiting another president, Bashar Assad in Syria, because he failed to notice that Assad is a genuine thug and assassin with blood all over his hands. Kucinich only saw reason to praise Assad and Syria for accepting refugees from the war in Iraq, where Assad's Iranian mentors have been supplying sophisticated roadside bombs to more-efficiently kill the American soldiers Kucinich really supports. Kucinich even found time to go on television in the Mideast and denounce President Bush to our enemies in time of war for an ''illegal occupation'' of Iraq. That used to be called treason back in the day before deluded moral gnats like Kucinch could get elected to Congress and run for president. Kucinich also refused to visit Iraq, telling his Mideast TV interviewer, ''I don't want to bless that occupation with my presence.'' It must be a burden for so superior a being as Kucinich -- we'll address him as His Presence from now on -- to have been so close to Iraq and the American troops he really supports, yet unable to visit them and shake their hands or bring them some cookies or greetings from home because it would stain the luminous robes of His Presence to be in their ''illegal'' presence in Iraq. Maybe it's better for His Presence that he doesn't get near any American soldiers. Now that they have seen exactly how he really supports them, they might be tempted to wad him up in a ball and polish their boots with him.

Truth, Inside the Beltway, DC Added: Thursday November 22, 2007 at 10:59 AM EST To Rep. Kucinich Who is paying your salary while you are traveling around the world trashing your country and making a fool of yourself? Look in the mirror. You are a Benidict Arnold. Ed Sanders, Amherst, Oh Added: Monday October 01, 2007 at 09:22 PM EST Assad and Iran couldn?t buy propaganda like this. The World Council of the Cedars Revolution (“WCCR”) and the Reform Party of Syria (“RPS”) condemn Representative Dennis Kucinich for his recent visit to Damascus and to Hezbollah controlled areas of Lebanon. Kucinich’s visit further strengthens the tyrannical rule of Bashar Assad and is aimed at returning the Syrian Army to Lebanon and further destabilizing the nascent Iraqi Democracy. Allowing Syria to serve as a peacekeeper in a regional multinational force would be akin to the fox guarding the hen house.
The precedent of Syrian “peacekeeper” forces is well established and the results were disastrous. In 1976 Syrian armed forces, under the tutelage of the Assad regime, entered Lebanon as part of the Arab League’s peacekeeping mission to end Lebanon’s Civil War. Instead of helping to establish peace and foster reconciliation, the Assad regime caused further death and destruction by pitting one group against the other with the goal of establishing complete Syrian Assad regime control over the only democracy in the region outside of Israel and Turkey. Nearly three decades later, after turning Lebanon into a client police state of the kleptocratic “junior” Assad regime, UNSCR 1559 forced their retreat. Instead of finally establishing diplomatic relations with Lebanon and accounting for hundreds of Lebanese detained in Syrian jails, Assad has continued to assist Hezbollah and aid in the flow of weaponry and terrorists into both Lebanon and Iraq. That is the reason that so many Iraqi refugees have had to flee their country. All the while his Baathist regime has continued to violently repress his own citizens who have little freedom and risk their lives if they dare to oppose his despotic rule.
Assad deserves only the opprobrium of the international community not the praise of Dennis Kucinich. Mr. Kucinich should understand by now that Assad’s continued interference with the investigation into the assassination of the former Prime Minster of Lebanon, Rafic Hariri, his continued support of terrorist groups, including Hezbollah and his brutal repression of both ordinary Syrians and Lebanese are proof of his regimes guilt. In due time Assad and his protectors in Syria will be held accountable for their actions. After all of these well known facts, Kucinich sees fit to praise the Syrian government for its “sympathy” by hosting the refugees that it created.
Mr. Kucinich’s visit legitimizes the Assad regime that drips with the blood of its own citizens and the blood of thousands of Lebanese and Iraqis. Mr. Assad’s regime hangs by a thread and is now thrown a lifeline by a desperate Presidential candidate whose actions are imperiling the hopes and aspirations of millions of Lebanese, Syrian and Iraqis not to mention the brave US soldiers.

A very concern Syria-American., Los Angeles, CA Added: Thursday September 20, 2007 at 07:39 PM EST Blood on whose hands? First off, when people start to accuse political leaders as being thugs with blood on their hands, we must first look at ourselves, i.e. our government. Think of Hiroshima, Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua, East Timor (how we turned our head to the genocide that was happening there). We invaded Iraq -- we've set off a civil war, and killed and injured (severely) hundreds of thousands of military and non-military people. For him to vote against this 911 resolution, he has his convictions. Bush administration lied about the invasion, and no one with any real power is doing anything about getting justice for the troops who have died or been crippled or for the innocent Iraqis. Yes, we love their commitment and sacrifice. Unfortunately they're just pawns. EVEN if Bush didn't lie, just was misinformed, there were many great minds around Bush telling him NOT to invade. But he did it anyway. Kucinich's nay vote is a statement of dissatisfaction with his Congress in their lack of a spine. Should Iran pre-emptively strike our ships off their coast because of our threats? I do not condone, if proven, ied's from Iran into Iraq however we tend to forget the arms we sent to Bin Laden to kill Russian troops and shoot down their helicopters in their Afghan war several years ago. Bob D, Hollis Added: Friday September 14, 2007 at 03:36 PM EST Talk About An Alternative Universe Lets get the facts straight.
The war in Iraq was declared by our president. Under Constitutional law he isn't allowed to declare war, only Congress is. So first, he committed treason right out of the gate (He took an oath to defend the US Constitution). Then to add to the debacle, Congress did not challenge his un-Constitutional act and went along with it.
Catching you up to now, we know that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. And the president has admitted it. It's a war for oil. We were lied to about WMD's. 60 Minutes ran a story about Bush and his administration orchestrating the war the month he took office. He had planned to go to war with Iraq long before 9/11 even happened. 9/11 just provided him with an excuse. He somehow connected the two while people were feeling vulnerable and afraid he bulldozed in and did something he wasn't legally allowed to do. He counted on Americans being prejudice against Middle Eastern people and being ignorant of their Constitution.
So now the whole Country knows there were no WMDs and it's a war on oil, but Bush isn't finished with his personal mission, to secure the region and gain control of the oil fields so he keeps spreading the lie that pulling out would be a bad idea. Even though we know the whole thing was based on a lie. And we have lost over 3,000 soldiers to an un-American Unconstitutional war.
The American people last November voted a change in the Congress, because they did not agree with Bush's policy, but the Democrats stood in fear and did not try to stop him (what they were elected to do). Except a few lonely patriots, Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul. They have been apposed to the war from the start. The two men with the guts to uphold the Constitution no matter what the odds against them.
Traitor? I'll tell you who's a traitor, George W. Bush and every single Congress member who can't stand up and uphold our Constitution. I'm so sick of American's who back evil leaders just because they are in power. Questioning authority is the only chance we have of keeping our government honest. Blind faith to any government sets us up for evil. Does anyone not know their American History? Read your Declaration of Independence and your Constitution and stop following blindly and ignorantly toward an end to freedom and liberty. Our Constitution was created to protect us from government not protect our government from us. Without it, we have no protection of our freedoms.
Our government has been over thrown by evil. When patriots are called traitors we are in serious danger of losing our Republic and our freedom.
Get back that American spirit that created our government out of a need for freedom and liberty. History will show for those who are so blinded by loyalty like this author that they are the true followers of evil and the most un American traitors to our nation. They've been brainwashed to bow to authority which is the most un-American quality of all. Our founding fathers would be rolling in their graves.
Dennis Kucinich and any other Patriot who stands up for Constitutional law should be hailed as American hero's not taunted as un- American because they are smart enough to see past the propaganda.
Do you think Hitler's followers sensed how evil he really was? There's a point of no return, sir you have reached it. Stupid Americans will be the downfall of our great nation! Joyce, Elyria Added: Friday September 14, 2007 at 11:22 PM EST Can't you hear the truth? The biggest resentment toward Dennis Kucinich comes from the fact that he has consistently been against this tragic and senseless war. He lied about his aspirations to once again become the laughing stock of not only NE Ohio but of the nation with another miserable single digit wanna-be Presidential run even after he told his constituents in the 10th District that he wouldn’t run again if re-elected to congress.
He lied about where he would spend his time and energy if re-elected, as he has been nowhere near Ohio let alone the 10th congressional district and has been “campaigning” in California, Hawaii, and as of late, Syria.
He lied before the vote on the September 11th Resolution which Congress passed 334-1 when he was quoted saying “he supports our troops” - as his voting record is publicly clear by voting against every recent defense appropriations bill, voting against better body and vehicle armor, voting against supplementary bills and funding that would help provide necessary security and supplies for our brave men and women serving the cause of freedom around the globe and of course was the one dissenting NO vote on a resolution which would honor the memory of those lost on that fateful day six years ago and extend sympathies to family and friends while also honoring those who are currently fighting terrorism on our nations behalf.
To the voters in the 10th- When is enough, enough? It’s time to elect someone who will represent you not Californians or Syrians!

Depending on the estimate, we are looking at around 1 million dead Iraqis and millions more displaced. The war was not authorized by the United Nations and the main reasons for invasion (WMD, links to Al Qaeda) were false. Thus the the war is clearly a case of "international aggression", which according to the UN charter is the highest crime committable by a sovereign nation. Aggressors have no rights, only obligations, so Dennis is correct to call for reparations.

I agree with Congressman Kucinich. Isn't the millions paid in compensation enough to honor the victims of the WTC? Has there been a resolution to honor the victims of other disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the 2004 Florida Hurricanes, the floods in the Midwest and the bridge collapse in Minnesota? We all know monetary compensation to the victims of these storms is sadly lacking. We have wasted enough funds in the occupation of Iraq to build a new home for each and every one. I know this personally I still do not have funds to repair my roof from 2004 after being hit by three hurricanes. Governor Jeb Bush simply turned his back on the hurricane victims of Florida and went off to Asia for the Tsunami photo-op.
Kucinich is a true Statesman opening a dialogue with Syria to engage the Syrians in securing PEACE in Iraq and the Middle East. The actions of G. W. Bush have brought shame on our nation. Bush has the blood on his hands of thousands who have been killed and maimed with American bombs. Our global image is tarnished with the illegal occupation of Iraq. Iraq was not responsible for the horrific attack on the WTC. Syria has taken on the burden of providing sanctuary and humanitarian aid to Iraqis who have been displaced by American destruction of Iraq. Bush failed to plan for refugees. You were right to jump all over him for it, and for the 9/11 Comemmoration vote. That illegal wars and illegal occupations should not be for supported. That talking is preferable than killing. I salute Congressman Kucinich for his courage in voting against that mindless resolution realizing that future challenges need not be addressed with force, that never ever works. I again salute Congressman Kucinich for having the wisdom to know that we truly honor someone, truly honor the troops when we are changed by them. Dennis Kucinich knows, as most Americans now known, we must change course in Iraq and leave, Vince Scarich, Los Altos, CA Added: Wednesday September 12, 2007 at 09:55 AM EST regarding the war How is being against the war anti-American? Since when is it treasonous to exercise first amendment rights?
It's hard to argue the war was not begun on false pretenses (WMDs?) so I also find it difficult to accept Kucinich is the 'only one' who feels that way. Also, it is impossible to achieve any kind of lasting stability in the middle east with 'bombs-first' diplomacy. I'm eager to hear suggestions about how else to have diplomatic relations with countries like Syria if preemptive military action is everyone's first tool for constructing a house of stability.
Also, I'm curious to know if Nancy Pelosi and Condoleezza Rice "draped in shame" now they've visited Syria. For the record, Kucinich did attempt to visit Israel, the supposed counterweight in the area, but was unable to do so. He also visited Israel last year. Jack Crowley, Ocala FL Added: Wednesday September 12, 2007 at 09:47 AM EST Yay, media bias Well, let's see. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction. Yet, the Bush administration adamantly and publicly insisted otherwise, and so a war that shouldn't have happened has happened and taken thousands of American lives as well as those from other countries. The USAPATRIOT Act was written before 9/11. It was reintroduced and passed shortly after 9/11. Why would there be a need for it without a big fat terrorist attack to scare Americans into giving up their civil liberties? Many of them did so willingly, and still believe that we're better off with tapped phones, no habeas corpus, no fourth amendment rights, limited first amendment rights, while they wave the flag and talk about all the freedom that they supposedly have. It's become unpatriotic, or as some who have no real valid arguments might say, "deluded", to even find something wrong with this situation, much less dare to speak about it.
Mr. Kucinich is a brave person who stands up for what's right even when it might not make him popular.
It's a shameful and potentially dangerous thing when Americans (like the one who wrote this article, in particular) are so underinformed on the subject of what's going on around them. staz, Columbus, OH Added: Wednesday September 12, 2007 at 09:44 AM EST Hatchet job Bush did lie. It had no teeth, it was just a show for the public. Well the "thinking" public doesn't want sideshow politics, they want action and progress. The road to peace in the middle east will not be won with guns and lost lives, it will be made through open and frank discussions with the leaders there. Jim Headrick, Estacada, OR Added: Wednesday September 12, 2007 at 09:33 AM EST Kucinich speaks truth to power with courage. He knows, as don't we all, that peace in the Middle East can only come through diplomacy, not war. Syria and Jordan deserve our particular thanks for accepting millions of refugees from our war of choice, refugees for whom we continue to fail to take responsibility. Our banks have frozen $80 billion taken from Iraq's assets which the Jordanian king requests for refugee resettlement and job creation. Kucinich is acting presidential in my book. William R.
