The Robstown Cottonpickers knocked off the No. 1 ranked Calallen Wildcats 4-2 on April 10.

A fourth inning, three-run Picker rally launched Robstown past Calallen, ending the Wildcats' 13-game winning streak.

Trey Hernandez pitched a complete game for Robstown, holding Calallen to only two runs on six hits, while striking out eight.

Calallen struck first as Sean Hoelscher led off with a single. But Hoelscher was thrown out on an attempted double play as Kris Guerrero singled to third and beat out the throw to first.

Logan Varrett then flew out to left field for the second out with Guerrero still at first.

Calallen's designated hitter Marcus Irvine then ripped an RBI double, scoring Guerrero all the way from first to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

With Irvine in scoring position, Derrick Hagy singled, but Irvine was unable to score, putting runners on the corners.

Hagy then stole second base to put two runners in scoring position for right-fielder Aaron Alaniz who struck out to end the inning.

Calallen scored again in the top of the third inning after Ryan Duke was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Jeramaie Marek struck out and Steven Vidaurri flew out to left field for two quick outs.

Duke stole second base to move into scoring position for Hoelscher.

Hoelscher then smoked a ball right at Robstown's third baseman Ricky Mendez who was unable to field the ball, allowing Duke to score from second and Hoelscher to make it to second.

Kristian Bueno pitched well for Calallen, working the corners and getting the Robstown batters to bite, until the fourth inning.

Robstown's Robert Briones led off the bottom of the fourth with a walk. Hernandez reached base after Briones on an error by Calallen's Hagy at second base.

With two on, Ricky Mendez grounded out to first base for the first out, advancing Briones to third on the play.

Aaron Martinez was up next and reached base on an error by the Calallen catcher Guerrero, also allowing Briones to score from third, cutting the Wildcat lead to 2-1.

Martinez then stole second base, moving into scoring position as James Gonzalez struck out.

Chris Contrearas came up to bat with two on and two out and blasted a two-run single to give Robstown a 3-2 lead.

Smiley Gonzales struck out to end the inning, but the damage was done. The Pickers had a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish.

After the Pickers gained the lead, Hernandez performed in the clutch, striking out five of the last nine Calallen batters and not allowing a hit in the final three innings.

Robstown tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth when Martinez scored on a fielding error by the Calallen third baseman.

Hernandez pitched a complete game for Robstown, striking out eight and allowing two runs for the win.

Robstown got the victory, 4-2, and avenged its 5-0 loss to Calallen in the opening game of district play on March 23.
