John Kendall, John Campbell and Maryann Krumm, who announced their candidacies this week, envision tax control, transparent redevelopment, streetscape improvement and Recchino Field Complex progress, and want to instill a sense of pride and peace in Haddon Township.
"I think people are ready for three totally new faces, people who have not run for commissioner before, people who have been involved, people who are interested in giving time to their town," Kendall, who works often as a background actor and is employed by L-3 Communications, said Monday.
Kendall, whose familial roots in town date back to 1923, is a 14-year Board of Education member and president of the Camden County School Boards Association. A founding board member of the Haddon Township Crew Club, he has participated in the Camden County Citizens Advisory Council, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the Haddon Township Athletic Assocation (HTAA), and served as an emcee for Pre-Prom Promenade and Arts Extravaganza.
He touts his running mates' "proven track record" of community involvement.
John Campbell, known best as President of the West Collingswood Heights Board of Fire Commissioners, works for the environmental corporation Hydrosicence.
Campbell, who has coached baseball, soccer and softball for the HTAA since 1998, thinks the Recchino Field Complex warrants attention.
"It needs to be finished," said Campbell. said about the fields, which are riddled with drainage problems and are still awaiting renovations.
As for redevelopment, said Campbell, eminent domain should be a last, if any, resort.
Krumm, who works as a medical assistant, is chairperson and a founding member of the Haddon Township Committee on Disability and is Haddon Township's appointed representative to the National Organization on Disability, and has faciliated ADA compatibilty measures at the township's library branch and Crystal Lake Pool. .
Krumm has held several PTA positions and has also organized theater programs, workshops, and a summer program at Crystal Lake Pool for individuals with disabilities.
A natural theater program buff, Krumm is adamant that Westmont Theatre redevelopment unfold to suit the public interest.
"Everyone has a different idea about how redevelopment should happen," said Krumm, but the town is so divided.
Both Krumm and Kendall support the idea of a public discussion series in which residents could discuss redevelopment options.
