    28th annual Fiesta Mexicana

    The St. Anthony Parish in Robstown will hold its 28th annual Fiesta Mexicana Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4, kicking off with an afternoon parade Saturday in downtown Robstown.

    The parade will begin at 1 p.m. at Main Avenue and Martiana Ortiz Boulevard and travel down Main Avenue to the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds.

    The fiesta activities will last until 10 p.m. Saturday at the fairgrounds in Robstown and activities will resume at 11 a.m. Sunday with Sunday Mass. The festivities will continue until after the ticket drawing at 8 p.m. Sunday.

    There will be lots of food booths, games for children and live music.

    Performing live will be El Mariachi Rio, La Differencia De Jesse Soto, Jesse Marroquin, Ramiro Gonzalez Y Los Nuevos Campeones, Los Arias, Megan Ramos, Teen Life Band, Robstown High School Mariachi, Garry Hobbs and many more favorites.

    The awards presentation for the king and queen candidates has been changed from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The awards presentation for the floats and all other entries in the parade will also be at 7 p.m. Sunday.

    As part of the Fiesta Mexicana, the sixth annual Recognition Banquet was held Saturday, Feb. 28, at St. Anthony Parish Hall in Robstown to recognize parishioners who have volunteered and have been involved within the parish.

    The Rev. Robert Rank was the main honoree this year. He was a school principal for several years at St. Anthony Catholic School and a parish priest for 10 years before he left the parish in 1999 to be a chaplain for Christus Spohn Shoreline.

    Jesse Luis and his wife, Virginia, were also recognized. Jesse Luis was recognized for his dedication with the Stewardships Program, the parish finance committee and the Bishops Annual Appeals.

    Basilia Guerra, and her daughter, Rachel, were recognized for their volunteer work at St. Mary's Mission Church. They are both involved in the Religious Education Program and are active in various activities in the parish.

    Blanca Aparicio was recognized for her volunteer work at St. Mary's Mission Church. She is part of the choir and is a religious education teacher.

    Eva Hernandez, the Religious Education Director of St. Anthony Parish in Robstown, was also recognized for her volunteerism and dedication to the school and parish.

    Hernandez began volunteering at St. Anthony School in 1964. She later worked in the school cafeteria and volunteered as a Catechist, which she still continues today. In 1984, she was given the position as Director of Religious Education Program. She also served a Eucharist Minister, a church lector, and a leader for the Spanish Cursillo.

    Hernandez continues to volunteer for school functions and parish act ivies.

    Noelia Ocañas, who has been a teacher, principal and assistant principal for St. Anthony School, was also recognized. She has been with the school for 30 years.
