Chairman of the North Attleborough Board of Selectmen John Rhyno has proposed the formation of a new screening committee to begin looking for a Town Adminstistrator.
At the Board of Selectmen meeting last week. Rhyno's proposal was passed unanimously. The screen committee will include the town's police chief, fire chief, human resources director, DPW director and superintendent of schools.
Rhyno also issued a request for other town boards to coalesce again and work toward a solution to flooding problems at Hickory Woods.
"The Boards are invited here again with the goal to fix problems at Hickory Woods without assigning blame," said Rhyno, who referenced the Marx Brothers by saying at Hickory Woods, "You can get any kind of home you want, even stucco. Oh boy, how you can get stucco."
Rhyno also said, "The Boards can be part of the solution or part of the problem."
With the idea of solving Hickory Woods water woes, Marge Kraskouskas proposed taking $4,000 from the town's Lyon's Fund to hire a engineer to find out "what went wrong."
Kraskouskas' proposal was also unanimously approved.
In other Board action, a request by the Historical Commission to file a pre-application for a grant for the LeStage Property was approved.
The Board also announced the approval of a contract for Police Chief Michael Gould. Terms of the contract weren't released.
In related news, the Board approved a request from Chief Gould to appoint Robert Sugrue as a special police officer.
The Board continued to wrestle with ethics issues regarding the renewal of license ranging from liqour to fortune telling.
The Board is waiting on a written opinion from Town Counsel Bob Bliss regarding ethics disclosure forms and is expected to vote on the license renewals at this week's meeting.
"I haven't had my fortune told," said Kraskouskas, "but based on the problems with ethics disclosures, I just might need one."
It was also announced at last week's meeting that Robert Davis of Mattapoiset has been named as North Attleborough's new health Agent.
Davis is expected to meet the Selectmen during a January meeting.
