NEW BRITAIN - Right-hander Adam Harben, slated to pitch one of the games in Friday's doubleheader, apparently will be the player to be named in Friday's trade that sent Phil Nevin to the Twins.
Harben, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound native of Little Rock, Ark., was 4-9 with a 3.96 ERA for the Rock Cats. The 23-year-old was the Twins' 15th round selection in the June 2002 draft.
Harben, who is on the Twins' 40-man roster, would have to clear waivers before the deal is official. He was slated to start the first game Friday night but was in his street clothes charting the game instead.
All-Star game coming
back to Connecticut
The Connecticut Defenders announced Friday that they would be hosting the 2007 Eastern League All-Star Game. The City of Norwich previously hosted an all-star game in 2002.
Matienzo New Britain's Babe Ruth
First baseman/designated hitter Danny Matienzo became the Rock Cats' career home run king Wednesday night when he hit his 40th. The homer - his 17th of the season - catapulted him past Kevin West, who hit 39 homers in 2003 and 2004. It came off Reading left-hander J.A. Happ.
Matienzo, 25, is also challenging for the all-time RBI spot (166) currently held by West and Jeff Smith (1997-2002). He entered Friday two short.
