ROXBURY - The Roxbury Marathon will have two installments in 2006; September 30 and December 9, both Saturdays, at 8:30 a.m.The 26.2-mile races are being sponsored by the Roxbury Road Race Series, which holds weekly races each year from the third Saturday in February through the first Saturday in December.The long treks will start and finish near the Everett Hurlbut Community Park on West Apple Lane.
The course will include one trip through the a course out to near Judds Bridge and back and five trips through a 3.56-mile course in which the runners will travel through the running track at the community park and down the long dirt surface on Hemlock Road to Route 67 and then South Street.
In addition to individual results the event also will be open to four-member teams that will run an 8.2-mile leg, two 7.1-mile legs and a 3.55-mile leg.

There will be a $5 entry fee for each runner in the individual and team competitions. It can be paid at the community park on the day of the marathons from 7:15 to 8:20 a.m
The proceeds will go to the Roxbury Road Race Series' T-shirt-grants fund.
There will be water stations and a split timer on the course and emergency medical technicians will provide any assistance that is needed. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
The September marathon is named after Scott Benjamin. The December marathon is named after Ed Sandifer, a regular runner in the Roxbury series who has completed the Boston Marathon 34 consecutive years.
